This idea is not yet fully formed, so please forgive me if it seems a bit nebulous. What I would like to propose to fellow Kossacks, progressives, and health care reform advocates is a National Sick Day. Employees who support health care reform would all call in sick to work on the same day, to show their support for Single-Payer/Public Option. The effort could be coordinated clandestinely through the internet/cellphones.
General strikes work, as any European worker will happily tell you. A National Sick Day would send a message to corporate America and Washington through sheer numbers when (if?) reported by the media. Sick Day would have the advantage of not technically being a strike, as well as tying directly into health care reform.
For those fearful of losing their jobs or being reprimanded for participating, perhaps amenable doctors could provide doctor's notes demonstrating that said person was in fact ill.
So, fellow Kossacks, I ask you: am I crazy, or is this idea just crazy enough to work?
