A very frustating thread is weaving through all the diaries written about health care reform.
We have to do something.
Something must be done.
We see how the wingnuts are organized, largely due to the lobbying efforts of big insurance, and getting egged on by the cheerleaders over at Faux.
We need to get organized.
What can we do?
I just got back from a family BBQ. My family is mixed- several hard core conservatives,a few more liberals, and a larger group of "I don't care's".
I was looking foward to a good time, seeing a few relatives I hadn't seen in awhile, so I left my politics at the door.
Not so a cousin, very conservative, very Christian, and very vocal about what she has been seeing at the town halls. I entered the conversation when she said, "Not for nothing, but I know that for every one of us that are at these halls, doing what needs to be done, there are thousands of pro-choice liberals sitting home doing nothing. That's how we'll win this. We care about this more than they do."
Well.
"Is that what you think?" I asked. "Do you believe that just because we are not shouting down town hall meetings we don't care about reform?"
I went on to explain the meaning of grass roots vs. astroturf, and my uncle (who doesn't care) said an "open up the heavens and let the sun shine through" statement.
"If you want to get a pretty good idea about how many people support this thing and how many do not, have a post card drive."
Genius!
Start right now. Start sending post cards to Congress. Get everyone you know. Start a drive. Let's mail millions of postcards to Washington. Not to any office, but to the Capital building itself.
And on the postcard write the words:
Vote for Public Option, or I won't vote for you
This will send the message that the majority of the people want and need this now!
Thank you, Uncle Lou.
