As expected Kentucky Lt.Governor Daniel Mongiardo has a decent lead over Attorney General Jack Conway in a new WHAS11/SURVEYUSA poll for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. Mongiardo holds a 8 point lead over Conway, 39% to 31% while Darlene Fitzgerald Price has 3%, Johnson 4%, Sweeney 1% and 19% are undecided. The poll did include the category "other" that diluted the results a bit.
Mongiardo needs to build on his lead and report a solid quarter of fund-raising.
I was right on the money with the Grayson-Paul matchup. Grayson leads by 11%.
Now the talk of Conway being the front-runner should end today within the national and local media circles. See, money is not everything. BUT, Mongiardo needs a solid quarter to secure his status as the front-runner. But as of today Daniel Mongiardo is the front-runner in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Conway had been considered the front-runner because of his large lead in fund-raising. Mongiardo came within a cats whisker of defeating Jim Bunning in 2004 and is the rural Kentucky favorite.
The scary part for Jack Conway is that he is being crushed in the rural regions of Kentucky. You cannot win a statewide election in Kentucky with out winning, or at least come close to winning, at least one rural market.
