Seen that bumper sticker? "Jesus is God. Read the bible." The first time I saw it I did a double take. Now I shake my head in disgust. WTF?
Short diary but important to me...
I was baptized catholic and had my first five grades in catholic school. After that it was the saving grace of a public school. And it has taken many years to shed the indoctrination from catholic schools/church. I am not a bible scholar, nor do I intend to be. I appreciate the bible, just as I appreciate the koran, torah, book of mormon, and best of all, the dictionary. I find them all to be good books, I just despise what people do with them to push their own agendas.
However, I don't remember ever hearing that Jesus was God. And I mean from faiths other than Catholic. It was always: Jesus is the SON of God. It has only been in the past 10 years or so that I first saw the Jesus is God bumper sticker. I have not engaged anyone whose auto had that sticker... as yet, simply because they were always driving as was I. Also, I'm not certain that they actually would practice what Jesus preached. Never know these days who is carrying!
But my question to them is simple: when did Jesus become God?
Can anybody out there tell me specifically where in any "holy" book Jesus is declared to be God?
With all this hate and rage and aggression boiling up around us, I am always puzzled by the utter lack of Jesusness in those boiling. Of course, now when I am asked by anyone about what would Jesus do, I respond: "Jesus has been co-opted by the money changers and they have him out in front of the temple hawking their goods." That seems to get them boiling. I'm okay with that.
But I still can't get an answer to my question. Help, anyone?
