For over a month now, ever since the tea baggers and right wing loonies started taking over town halls, there has been a call to action from a lot of people here and on other liberal sites. Successful boycotts have been called, fundraisers and e-mail drives have gone beyond expectations, and pro health care reform/public option supporters have taken back the rhetoric from the wingnuts at town hall meetings.
But frustration is rising, and now, there are three (3) calls for a march on Washington, DC.
I can't make it to Washington on any of these dates. The September 27th date, I believe, has been dropped. September 13, the day after the tea baggers hope to impress Washington, so far as I know, is still a go. And now, I hear that September 6 is a good choice.
I remember in the '60's, there was a march just about every week-end. So the concept of having a march for health care reform for all these dates makes sense to some people. Except, I'm really busy.
It's not that I don't support the public option, I do. I have e-mailed and called all my reps, and a few who I just think need a kick in the pants. But right now, the votes on the bill are still pending. I can urge, convince, persuade and conjole to get the congress to pass this bill. I can rant about my frustration and rage about the lies destroying any concrete debate about how much this bill will cost and who will pay for it. As far as I'm concerned, these are the only problems about the bill that need to be worked out.
Peter Clothier, at Huffington Post http://huffingtonpost/... has an interesting suggestion. On September 1, at 12 noon, we should all mail letters (I say postcards) to members of congress. All at once. At the same time. A mass mailing to show in reality the numbers for support.
I'm adding a new message to my card. You see, right now, I am not outraged enough to make the trip to DC. However, if, by some cruel sick twist of injustice, this reform does not pass, oh my.
Then you will see a march on the capitol to end all marches on the capitol.
Because then, 77% of the population will be outraged. Because then, we will hunt you down, we will come and get you. We will make sure those who voted against the people will never show their faces in Washington, DC again.
And that, my esteemed leaders, is my promise.
