Let me start by saying this is a terrible excuse for a diary entry. Please don't rec it. It's just that Chuck Grassley never ceases to infuriate me. This morning, first thing, he ticked me off once again. Here is his Twitter entry from this morning.
Sure happy I voted agst car/clunker bill now that Obama is suspending bill bc it is not administrable. He ought to rethink govt run health
Suspending the bill because it was not "administrable"? Huh? The program was ending because it was a HUGE success! About a half million cars sold thus far. Auto manufacturers, glass and plastics factories, steel producers, parts suppliers, etc. all recalling laid-off workers back to work. GM restarting the lines to produce more Malibus. A half million less fuel efficient cars on our roads traded for more fuel efficient cars. Dealerships running out of inventory that was sitting on their lots.
Sometime in the last week I heard some pundit on the radio say it beautifully. "If President Obama walked on water, Republicans would complain he couldn't swim."
And THIS is the guy President Obama praises as working hard to get health care reform done.
"Now, I think that there are some of my Republican friends on Capitol Hill who are sincerely trying to figure out if they can find a health care bill that works — Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Mike Enzi of Wyoming, Olympia Snowe from Maine have been — yes, I got to admit I like Olympia, too. They are diligently working to see if they can come up with a plan that could get both Republican and Democratic support." - Des Moines Register
The same guy who tweets that the President "ought to rethink govt run health." The same guy who said he was "sticking his finger in the dike" to hold back reform. The same guy who has said he won't vote for a reform bill even if he gets everything he wants in it.
Mr. President, why do we continue to pretend this guy is working towards the same goals that we are? Is this a "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer," thing? I gotta say. I just don't get it. Why are we even taking into consideration the thoughts of a person who is so obvious in his desire to see health care reform fail?
