I am absolutely crushed. We expected Senator Ted Kennedy to hang on to cast the decisive vote for Health Care Reform. Alas, he is gone. The Lion sleeps tonight.
We can't do the monthly event the same way we have been doing it, we can't just stand there with signs and have people honk. But we can't just cancel our event. The Murder by Spreadsheet industry isn't going to close down in memory of Senator Kennedy. If anything, they are probably whooping it up in joy.
My suggestion is to turn this into a memorial vigil. Warner Center Park, corner of Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Califa St., Woodland Hills, CA, Friday night, 5pm to 6pm. (Yes, cutting it short this time.) Bring flags. Yes, I mean the American Flag. Stars and Stripes. I have my Betsy Ross, and I can set the pole up to fly the flag half-mast. Candles won't work, as we will be in broad daylight. But dress in black and fly the flag. People won't understand what we are doing, but we need to do it anyway. Holding signs somehow seems unseemly this time.
