Dahling, I've got to tell you something
And I don't say this to everybody..
You look mahvelous! Absolutely mahvelous! (Mahvelous!)
More after the jump...
WHEE (Weight, Health, Eating and Exercise) is a community support diary for Kossacks who are currently or planning to start losing, gaining or maintaining their weight through diet and exercise or fitness. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. If you are working on your weight or fitness, please -- join us! You can also click the WHEE tag to view all diary posts.
A year ago, I found myself double-shirting in the summer. A T-shirt and then an open, short-sleeved button down shirt. This open, baggy shirt look helped hide the increasing large bulge otherwise known as my stomach.
Like, you know, if I wear a lot of clothes no one will notice I’m fat. Well, it made me feel good.
Fast forward... my new WHEE-fit body is down 15 pounds. Only a fraction of the 70 I’ve set out to lose... but heh, we’re talking a bowling ball. So going to a BBQ two weeks ago, I’m feeling good. I decide to go with just the t-shirt.
I must say, the compliments I received from a few of my friends meant a lot to me. And those kind words of encouragement certainly helped motivate me to get up at 5:30 most mornings so I could hit the treadmill before work.
You see, I’m in that "window" now... that stage where you can notice the fact that I’ve been trying to eat better, exercise and live a healthier life. But I know it’s not going to last. Especially as I get toward the latter part of my journey... trying to lose that final 20 pounds, the ones that will be the hardest to lose.
It's already started to happen. Saw the same crowd at an event on Sunday... not a word about my slightly-improved physic.
A study conduced at the University of Minnesota a few years back identified that over time, as positive reactions to the weight loss experience decreased, so too did the beliefs that the benefits of weight loss were worth the effort. The conclusion: inadequate long-term rewards for behaviors needed for weight control was a frequent cause for weight loss failures.
I don’t want that to be the case with you.
Your health matters to me (we’ve got a lot of advocating still to do!)
So on this Thursday morning, I want to compliment and encourage you. First of all, you are checking out a WHEE diary, and that alone is a great effort (woot! woot! for you). But tell me more. Go ahead. Drop a line in the comments – what step have you taken lately?
Did you move today? (awesome!) Did you make a healthy food decision this past week (I am so proud of you!) Maybe you’ve dropped a few pounds this year (that’s so cool!). Maybe you just managed to stay where you are (excellent!). And for everyone else, well.... You look mahvelous!
Don’t be shy... tell us something about your journey to healthier living. If we don’t support each other, we may fail together. And that simply can’t happen.
