When the AMA starts going after the Republicans on health care, you know the GOP is marginalized.
...a spokesman for the American Medical Association writes in to rebut the RNC's suggestion that "GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system."
"Patients should rest assured that the health care legislation under consideration in the House does not ration medical care or discriminate based on political affiliation. The fact is that the House bill will expand coverage and prohibit denials for coverage based on pre-existing medical conditions. The AMA is working for all Americans to have affordable, quality health coverage so they can get the care they need."
The Republicans are firing wildly in all directions, losing credibility and potential allies. The AMA is about as establishment as any health-related organization in the United States; the kind of player the Republicans should be courting, not alienating.
I have to give George W. Bush credit. He was brighter than this bunch. When he developed that abysmal doughnut hole in Medicare finances, he courted the AARP. Didn't help him with Social Security privatization, but it got that particular policy through. These jokers aren't half the political wizards Dubya was. That's not even a joke.
They are floundering. What should we do? Now's the time to put the pressure on. Call your senators, call your representative, even if all are Republicans. Or Liebermans. We have millions of people on our side, and using the phones and showing up at town halls is the best use of that resource. Keep the pressure on and we will get this done.
