or that you are a creeping cryptolibertarian (see #14) infiltrating Daily Kos.
(Me? I'm the real thing.)
To protect the innocent, see below fold.
From George, who as you can check was nominated by the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire as their Presidential candidate:
- If you support keeping Selective Service open, you're no Libertarian.
- If you support the racist states' rights doctrine that voters should decide if women can have abortions or African-Americans can vote, you're no Libertarian.
- If you support the racist war on drugs that has destroyed the future of half of all young African American men, you're no Libertarian. (Yes, my running mate Chris Bennett is an African-American.)
- If you supported Bush's War on Iraq, you're no Libertarian. But you get points for hoping that its ongoing failure would wreck his party.
- If you thought Bush's Secretary of Defense was a fine American, rather than the man who became a war criminal by persecuting Bush's crimes-against-peace war of aggression on Iraq, you are no Libertarian. And if you re-appointed him, well, everyone makes mistakes, but it takes a real man to admit them and fix them. For a change, we may have one as President.
- If you supported George Bush's War on Afghanistan, even after it became painfully obvious that the Germans had arrested the actual 9/11 co=conspirators and the Taliban and Al Qaeda were different people, you are no Libertarian. But you get points if you hope that Obama's War on Afghanistan will do to his party what Bush's War on Iraq did to Gopy the Gopasaur. Unless, of course, he realizes his mistake and fixes it by leaving, in which case you thank him for doing what was right.
- If you think we need a stronger military and a bigger army, you are no Libertarian. If you think that that our bloated military should be cut by, oh, 50% is a good start, you have Libertarian tendencies.
- If you think that people at a mature age, say, 35, should be allowed to opt out of Social Security irrevocably with no welfare backup, you have Libertarian tendencies.
- If you support Medicare after looking at the serious estimates of what it will cost in the long run, you are no Libertarian.
- If you support the Bernanke bailout and the GM bailout, you are no Libertarian. You also don't make it as a socialist, because socialism was supposed to be about investing in winners, not losers. If you note that TARP is making money hand over fist and are less upset, you have possible libertarian socialist tendencies -- libertarian socialists are real and fairly common in the U.K. -- because you admire making money and government intervention at the same time.
- If you think the NSA wiretapping every American's Phone calls was a good idea, you are no Libertarian. If you think that no prosecution and corporate immunity for those crimes was a good think, the American National Socialist Action Party is looking for recruits, and you will fit right in. If you think that throwing all the people who did those things in prison, after fair trials and convictions, is a good start, you are showing fine Libertarian tendencies. If your response to 'that could mean jailing 10,000 people' is 'is that all? Are you sure?' please contact us or the ACLU as your tastes provide.
- If you think 'conservative libertarian' makes sense in English, please be advised that our Libertarian position of ending the war on drugs did NOT mean that you should have tried every single one of them. Simultaneously.
- If you think %^&*&* Glenn *&%&*$#^%& Beck is a Libertarian, you are wrong. Or you are taking Glenn Beck at his word, in which case you need your head examined, though there is little hope that anything will be found. And if you think Ron Paul himself as opposed to many of his supporters is a Libertarian, you really really need to find out what his actual stands are on issues like abortion, gay rights, evolution, African-Americans, etc. really are.
- If you supported organizing the sponsor boycott of Glenn Beck, you bought into a real libertarian private solution to a social problem. And if your response to the conservative effort to organize an Maddow sponsor boycott is to organize a consumer support for Maddow drive, you actually understood the libertarian solution and why it is right.
