We have recently seen the astonishing effect that the netroots can have in the recent movement to send a message to wingnut supreme, Glen Beck. I suggest that now may be the time to send a similar message to MSNBC.
We have all read (and possibly written) complaints about how our one of our favorites, Rachel Maddow, provides a forum for Pat Buchanan to spout his special brand of racism, sexism, and anti-semitism. Normally these complaints are tempered by the belief that Rachel shows how out of step with contemporary thought he is. Nonetheless, he still has a forum and MSNBC appears to be under the mistaken impression that it is necessary to show both sides of an issue (which we all know is intellectually dishonest, but which seems to be an obsession with the MSM these days).
Recently Pat Buchanan published an article on his website and on Townhall entitled "Did Hitler Want War?" in which he says that WWII is Polands' fault. Aaron Keyak on Huffingtom Post does a nice job of explaining Buchanan's history revisionism. I regret that my own ineptitude precludes me from embedding the article for your convenience so any assistance in this regard is appreciated.
I trust that I am not alone in my anger at MSNBC for continuing to keep this poor excuse for a human being on the air. It is not acceptable for MSNBC to assert that he provides a balance or that he is a well-respected columnist. Even the late Willliam Buckley was critical of Buchanan's anti-semetic statements. Do you agree that he is no longer fit to be on the national scene? Normally I do not favor censorship and if Fox wants him, good riddance. If MSNBC hopes to remain a trusted source of news, Buchanan must go. I just hope that this diary starts a productive dialogue to address a problem on a station that prides itself as a reputable news station that is long overdue.
UPDATE: I changed the title to remove the word "Boycott" since, as was wisely pointed out, we don't want to hurt our best progressive station. Nonetheless, I beleive that we must express our disappointment that it allows PB a forum to validate the position of Holocaust deniers.
