Tony Perkins was on The Ed Show parsing Jesus to explain that a government takeover of health care is cherry picking Jesus. Fortunately Ed got a jab in about the fact that we are the government.
In fact, just to be clear since we've gone off the rails about what government is:
...government: of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
I can't remember what whack job said that, but I agree with this radical.
The government is the only actionable arm of citizens. The most significant way we take personal responsibility is through government.
When people suffer, they suffer alone. They do not parade down Wall St. They do not stroll through the bustling markets. They do not perambulate along the beaches and parks, where those lucky enough to avoid tragedy spend their days.
The means by which the carefree vacationer, the ambitious professional or the occupied middle-class toiler makes the contribution they would most likely be glad to make if they were presented with the stories of suffering is through our government.
Rather than have oceans of ignorance punctuated by traumatic spectacles we ought to simply and responsibly budget for the inevitable need for health care.
