Here is the message I just left on the White House website. Got the idea from someone on Democratic Underground and think it's a good one.
Mr. President,
I agree with the mainstream Democratic approach to health care, including the importance of a public option for the reasons you have repeatedly stated. My suggestion: Drop the terminology "public option". Instead, next Wednesday, announce that you want a health care system where people who don't have access to a private health care plan, or those who choose to, can buy into Medicare. Most people like Medicare, including some of the very people who say they don't want government run health care. Just tell folks that Medicare will be expanded to those of us below 65 who want to buy into it. Very simple and concise.
Perhaps the "buy-in" Medicare premiums can be set at a rate that would be inexpensive compared to current private insurance, yet generate enough of a profit to contribute to Medicare funding for the long term.
