This is not really a Pro-P or a Pro-I diary, but doesn't there seem to be something a bit askew over at the beeb?
Today at the beeb, we have an article:
The UN and international aid agencies say Israel must relax its blockade of the Gaza Strip to allow urgent repairs to the water and sewage systems.
More than 13m gallons (50m litres) of raw or partially treated sewage flows into the sea every day from Gaza because of a lack of treatment plants.
The UN says about 10,000 Gazans have no access to a water network - while about 60% of the 1.4m population receive water only intermittently.
Water consumption in the Strip is less than a third of that of Israelis living just a few kilometres away.
In 2007, one of the lagoons overflowed and five people were killed by a flash flood of sewage.
And the title of the bit?
Ironical? I mean, really - how does that title get attached to that article?
I realize this is not a great diary, and I realize that the situation in Gaza vis-vis the needed infrastructure repairs is deserving of a diary in and of itself. But I just wanted to call attention to this media, whaaaaaa?????
**small update** I don't want to politicize this one - but I also don't want to minimize the problem here. As the article says and h/t to Jay there is a threat to Israel:
The cross-border aquifer is low and raw sewage floats back to Gaza and Israel.
One would think that even if Israel says cement and such can't come into gaza, that everyone could find a third party to do this kind of work since it affects everyone.
Or (to paraphrase banjolele and borkitekt) would this be pissing away an opportunity ;-)?
