What is going on in this country?! I cannot believe this!
One of our local School Districts in Illinois, Harlem District No. 122, has posted a Notice on its website that it will not allow students to watch President Obama's speech to students on Tuesday.
The District obviously equates our US President with online porn since he is delivering his remarks via the internet.
Here is the Notice, along with my comments:
The following factors have been taken into consideration regarding the Harlem Consolidated School District’s stance on viewing President Obama’s speech to our Nation’s children:
- The official announcement of this speech to be delivered Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. was received by the Superintendent in email format at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2009.
Notice the statement "in email format". I'm not sure what that means, but I suspect the Superintendent didn't receive the notice sooner because her email address isn't available to the public as I couldn't find it on the District's website. She must have expected President Obama to call her personally months ago to advise her that he wanted to tell her students to study hard.
Also, how about that devious Department of Education waiting until after 5:00 p.m. to notify the District? Do they honestly think the Superintendent could be working after 5:00 p.m.?
- Monday, September 7, 2009 is a holiday with no students or staff in attendance.
We cannot let our students hear a pep talk from our President because MONDAY IS A HOLIDAY?
- The initial method of delivery by the President is through web access only.
The Superintendent must not have read her "email format" message very closely as this assertion is FALSE. The Department of Education website explicitly states that the address will on be broadcast live on: all C-SPAN outlets; the radio; and local broadcast outlets, including school district TV stations, via satellite. (http://www.whitehouse.gov/mediaresources/)
Again, we must protect our children from that gosh darn web access which has all of that online porn (a/k/a President Obama) on it!
- The speech will be made available for viewing after the initial delivery on September 8, 2009.
You parents aren't going to get to hear what that Obama character tells your children until AFTER your impressionable young white children are brainwashed!
- Many parents hold political and personal views regarding the idea behind President Obama’s speech and whether or not they want their child to view this speech.
What does that even mean?! Did a person with a doctorate really write this?! And how can so many parents hold views regarding "the idea behind" President Obama's speech when the Superintendent only found out yesterday that it was going to be delivered?
- Teachers are always encouraged to preview all materials before presenting them to their students.
Totally understandable since US Presidents always have wardrobe malfunctions during live speeches delivered to students about the importance of working hard in school.
- We are a public school system and obligated to refrain from imposing our political views on those we serve.
Imposing religion on our students, no problem. Encouraging them in their educational endeavors or teaching them to respect the Office of the President, as well as the importance of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights? What, are you nuts?!
The stance the Harlem Consolidated School District will take regarding President Obama’s speech is as follows:
- Harlem Consolidated School District will not take part in viewing the initial speech by President Obama on September 8, 2009.
Now, if our new President would have been white and a Republican...no problem!
- Teachers and/or entire schools under the direction of the principal may decide after the fact to incorporate the speech into a daily lesson or building event and utilize it as a learning tool. If a principal and/or the teachers decide to incorporate this into a school or classroom activity a note will be sent home with students stating the date and time of the event and parents may choose to exclude their students by sending a note to the teacher that they "opt out" as their choice.
Honestly, after all that, what teacher or principal in their right mind would even dare to bring up President Obama's speech? It would be easier to read Mein Kampf to the students during reading time.
Thank you.
Julie M. Morris, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Harlem Consolidated School District # 122
No. Thank You, Julie M. Morris, Ed.D. Thank you for teaching our children about their Constitution and what it means to be a Patriotic American. Thank you for educating our children about the importance of the First Amendment. Thank you for teaching our children to respect the Office of the Presidency.
What is our country coming too?
Let's have some real educational integrity and call this what it really is: TREASON.
