As opening day of another pro football season approaches I’d like to call on all athletes with a hint of progressivism and especially if you are of color  to treat Fox Sports with the cold shoulder as if they are running 24/7 specials that you suck.

I understand that professional athletes are contractually bound to speak to reporters, but they know how to express their displeasure with a writer or an organization that doesn’t have any love for them and I call on them to do it for all the people representing the Fox Empire.

Fox has made the business decision to be the voice of the Republican Party and is stoking fear and hatred and actively targeting members and especially members of color of the Obama administration.  I feel the entirety of the Fox media empire should suffer the consequences of the actions of its political arm.  I hope you agree they should bear the full consequences of their decision across their business units.

As for myself I bid goodbye Wall Street Journal, NFC, The Simpsons, and Good Day LA.    I will no longer watch any program on any Fox subsidiary nor will I read their newspapers.  I’m fairly confident there will be lists of sponsors produced of those organizations that support racism in reporting through their support of Fox a division of Republicorp a wholly owned subsidiary of Asshole Industries and I will be sure to stop doing business with them as well.

The people at Fox represent an organization that shows open animosity to people of color and serve as the mouth piece to the forces of reaction attempting to torpedo all the reforms we had hoped to achieve with the election of Barack Obama.

The time for change is now, as is the time to press on and isolate those against it.  Athletes I’m confident many of you made the commitment to that change and worked very hard for it, and in that spirit I would like to invoke the example of these men

These men helped start the franchise in having a social consciousness from athletics please help continue their legacy.  If asked reply

I'm not comfortable supporting an organization that promotes hate and dissension.

Here's the cue from the Big Dog.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

so I can't stop watching Fox Sports. I like watching the Redskins even though I'm almost certain that it will be another painful season.

we need to be very careful how/when we apply the Boycott! tactic. If you are not a Nielsen home, no one will even know you watched the World Series.

All you need to do is not support their advertisers. Since those are 90% cars, beer, and fast food, no of which I would ever consider buying, it is fairly easy for me.

I am an absolute sucker for sports history and I mean deep black history where there's always a story behind who they are and how they got to their positions. I used to have my own website and edited another and I loved to write stories like Curt Flood, Deacon Jones and other people about their lives and always got many compliments that they learned a lot and actually used material for their book reports and such.

The days of social consciousness in athletes is done. Most guys are only worried about how much money they can make and they don't want to blow those opportunities by saying anything of substance. I see LeBron James wants to be a billionaire so he and Tiger Woods never say anything to offend anyone.

I watched a lot of FOX sports and Family Guy and House, so I guess I'm a little guilty too. I think hitting FOX in their entertainment section of company is legitimate because everything in a person's life is always used against them and to hit them where it hurts does the most damage so they won't have all that money to pay Beck and Hannity.

Great diary because you got me where it counts the most. Ali, J Brown, Bill Russell, Jabbar, Curt Flood and all the other great ones that sacrificed without worrying about how many dollars they'd lose being honest.

    •  Im glad you mentioned Curt Flood (0+ / 0-)

I would put his picture up there but so many wouldn't know who he was.  Every modern ball player ought to toss him a 1000 bucks everytime they sign a contract.

You know I knew his son, I worked right along side of him for over a year and didn't know he was the son of the Curt Flood.

with the '68 Olympics and the 'black power' salute? Or how about the 'blacks were bred for athletics' gaffe from Jimmy the Greek? Athletes and those involved with sports (paging Mr. Olbermann) can make social messages heard if/when they choose to do it. Sadly, I don't think there are any out there in the current sports world that would be willing to rock the boat.

As A Bostonian I am sensitive to any racial slights about our city, so I was glad to see Bill Russell pictured.

Incidently he and the BOSTON CELTICS broke many of the race barriers in basketball. I believe Bill Russell was the first Black coach in the NBA.

  •  Don't watch FOX-ever! (1+ / 0-)

When the local channel (WNEW) was taken over by FOX, the attitude of the station changed. All liberal newscasters and anchors left, one by one, until there is no reason to watch that channel.

Now football-- I could miss a Jet game, if it was being aired on Fox. I could always get the score later.
