About a week ago, we all learned of the latest bit of ripe insanity to emit from the Loony Party, a.k.a. the GOP:
As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama’s socialist ideology.
That bit of effluvia came courtesy of the Loony Party's Florida chairman, Jim Greer. Well, now that the text of Obama's perfectly innocuous and non-political speech has been released, surely Mr. Greer has changed his tune...
Well...no, actually.
Via Talking Points Memo, Mr. Greer today appeared on CNN to claim victory:
Clearly last week there was a plan with the Department of Education," said Greer. "When you ask students to write a letter to the President on, how we can help you with your new ideas, Mr. President, that is leading the students in an effort to push the President's agenda. Now that the White House got their hand in the cookie jar caught, they changed everything, they redid the lesson plans, they released the text, and tomorrow he's gonna give a speech that every president should have an opportunity to give.
That's quite a charge to make, and one would think that an extraordinary claim would require extraordinary evidence:
Suzanne Malveaux asked Greer if he had any inside information that the White House changed the speech.
"No, I don't," said Greer. "But I would anticipate, based on this President being so vocal and so aggressive about his vision of America, where government is in every aspect of our lives, I believe that the speech that he was gonna give, based on the lesson plans, is different."
Heck, I'm sure he feels it in his gut, and that's good enough.
Summary: GOP attacks Obama for an entirely mythical speech. Obama releases the real speech. GOP claims victory for having made him change the non-existent speech.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2009 Loony Party:
