Why not a sunset provision for the public option?
Just e-mailed the White House.
Honorable Mr. President;
Contacted you a couple days ago voicing my concerns regarding health insurance reform.
Given the brouhaha over the public option plan might I suggest forgetting the "trigger" suggestion now coming out of the Senate and instead support a public option with a 10 year sunset provision if it doesn't pan out.
My reasoning is this. If we're all in support of Medicare and medicaid to cover the elderly and poor, and veterans like their VA care and support our troops being taken care of by our government, then why not calm the republicans irrational fear against the public option by adopting a sunset provision in the bill.
After a decade of this public option being enacted, I'm betting most Americans will come to see, much like the republicans brouhaha over gay marriage, just how irrational republican opposition was and will want to see the public option permanently implemented as part of our Health Care policy.
I'm also betting a public option with a 10 year sunset provision would be much more palatable to the blue dogs in congress.
