9 September 2009
Good morning Mr President,
Sir, we have abundant evidence that the G1M1S1 pandemic is ravaging our Nation.
That's shorthand for 'Greed First (G1), Me First (M1), Stupid First (S1)' and Mr President if you do not yet have ample evidence of the devastation that raging virus is causing our Nation - then you have been living on another planet these past six months.
Mr President you speak of the improbable, you speak of the single voice that amplifies to a societal outcry for Change - a voice that we all heard on the cold Springfield morning, Winter 2007. A voice that we enjoined and propagated and the result, Sir, is that you are President of the United States of America.
Improbable, yes indeed.
But what must not be improbable or obscure or 'political' or obtuse tonight, President Obama, is that your Presidency will be defined by 'Change We Can Believe In.'
You are wanting in that regard Mr President.
Wanting in several fundamental ways. Wanting in that you have not yet underscored a commitment to the rule of law, the value of each American's life, the vast harm that the culture of greed has wrecked on our fellow citizens these past 40+ years.
So, let tonight be the warm Beltway night that your Presidency defines itself and leave no one doubting your resolve to ensure that you meant what you said throughout your candidacy:
- Health care is not a commodity;
- Torture is a crime;
- Spying on American citizens is an abomination;
- War of aggression is a crime;
- Greed should never be rewarded;
- Many fewer will hate us if we stop bombing them, stop demonizing them, stop enabling others to deny them their homeland, and start providing them food, clean water, and education.
Mr President, regarding item # 1 - the primary, we are told, reason for your addressing the Joint Session of Congress - is no where near as complicated as so many have tried to make it.
Mr. President, health care is not a commodity and we have three functional systems in the United States that prove the case because of the quality and cost effectiveness of the provided care - the VA, TRICARE, and Medicare. So, the only legislation required is to extend the CHOICE - i.e., market competitive reality - for every American citizen to be enabled to CHOOSE Medicare. Period.
As to the other items, Sir, each is a manifestation of the devastation of the G1M1S1 virus to the ethical, legal and empathetic fabric of America. The remedies are no less direct and are no less readily available than the remedy for #1 - and you know it and so do We the People.
Let's get it done.
Fired Up - Ready to DO!
Let's get it DONE.
Thank you and let us hope you are the person we thought We elected President,
Bob
