This is hard on the children, this unemployment approaching 10 percent, skyrocketing homelessness, folks losing their homes to foreclosure. Children are particularly impacted by errant bombs in Afghanistan. Perhaps President Obama could give a little advice to the children as to how to deal with homelessness and attend school at the same time.
What about the errant bombs in Afghanistan, the ones that are killing civilians and hurting and maiming children? Does Obama have a little advice for those children, or are dreams and hopes reserved for American children only? Would he say to those children that we are bombing your country to bring you the ability to dream and to hope?
Would he tell those children to work hard on their school work despite the bombings and deaths in their families?
Here in our own country, maybe he's got a little advice for "Charity", a little girl whose family is facing eviction due to foreclosure. What to do with that knot in her stomach that prevents her from concentrating on her school work. How to deal with the constant sadness, perhaps even depression, that chases here like a bad dream all of the time.
Perhaps Obama might have a little advice for the parents of those children who live in tents now, since they lost their homes. How to keep your kids focused on school work, in the midst of family crisis. How to keep three meals on the table, without having to skip a meal so the kids can eat.
Perhaps he could explain to these kids why they feel so alone, as though no one cares what their families are going through. Maybe the kids wonder why the president is doing so little to help their families stay in their homes.
Perhaps he could help explain to the kids why they feel no one is listening to them.
