Claire McCaskill was the first candidate I ever contributed to that actually won. Barack Obama was the second. Now I am stepping it up a notch. I am trying to fundraise for a candidate. It's scary. This is my first time doing this. But I feel very passionately about the candidate. Why? At the jump.
I met Martha Coakley in college when she was my RA. We were both in a unique situation as our college had just gone co-ed. It was not unusual to be the only woman in some classes. It was pretty intimidating especially for a young black girl from a public school at an elite college. I remember Martha as funny, quick, earnest and committed to service. She, like her goofy, silly charges, was part of the vanguard of women who would break into the professional ranks of law, medicine, and business. In other words, she's smart, tough and tested. Since graduation and law school, Martha has continued to be the hard working, dedicated person I met so many years ago. She has not shied away from the tough or the difficult. As Middlesex D.A. and as Massachusetts Attorney General, Martha has been a tireless advocate for her fellow citizens, fighting for regular people. It is my strong belief that if elected, that Martha Coakley will continue the great tradition of Massachusetts senators--patriotic, liberal, hard working and enlightened.
So please join me and contribute to Martha Coakley for U.S. Senate. As we are learning now, it is very important that we continue to support and elect people committed to our cause. Please contribute and help carry on a great tradition and elect a great senator.
