(And your Best Person today is Katie Couric - if anyone underestimates her, they do so at their own peril.)
Glenn Beck. Not pundit Glenn Beck, not talk show host Glenn Beck, but now officially His Weirdness Glenn Beck.
Katie pulled this wonderful, Palinesque soundbite out of the mouth of Lonesome Rhodes yesterday:
Relevant bit per my live transcription:
Because I think John McCain is this weird progressive like Theodore Roosevelt was. I think John McCain would have been wor-ha! ha! How 'bout this? I think John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama. How's that?
Not only does this nakedly illustrate 1). how Beck's just out to make a buck off of blatantly lying to his beckerheads, and 2). how he doesn't really take anything he says seriously enough to stand by it, it also shows the level of pent up anger he has at John McCain.
For instance, here, Beck states that we're "headed towards a Mussolini-style presidency" (link: http://mediamatters.org/... ). Or here, when he says Obama is a "Marxist" - as it's only a semantic difference between that and being a "progressive" (go there quickly before this transcript gets scrubbed: http://www.glennbeck.com/... ), or the Very Big Lie that somehow President Obama is a "racist" who "doesn't like white people"...or doesn't doesn't like white people, but has a problem...or something:
So what Beck is really saying - if we take the words coming out of his mouth at face value - is that in his estimation John McCain would be worse for the country than a Marxist Mussolini-style racist President who has a problem with white people?
Now, either he really believes this, or all that talk about Obama being a Marxist Mussolini-style racist President who has a problem with white people was just happy talk to stir up his base, juke his ratings and sell his book.
At this point, I just gotta ask any journalist or pundit passing through Daily Kos on their way to write their Great Thinkpiece Of The Day: why do you take this man seriously?
Glenn Beck - hypocrite extrodinaire, and (in my estimation at least) today's worst person in the world.
