Please help me understand something. I heard this morning that Snowe is proposing amendments that will open up the exchange to everyone - even those with employer based insurance. After hearing this, I saw Harkin on Dylan Ratigan's MSNBC show trying to justify why those with employer based insurance should be frozen out of participating in the exchanges.
The only answer he had was that they did not want to make "radical changes" to the current system. My response was "Huh?". Democrats whole premise is that the system is badly broken and needs to be fixed. I just don't get it.
In my opinion, Democrats are going to look pretty silly if this is going to be their response on this issue.
I think Dylan Ratigan's questioning of Harkin was spot on. The reform cannot mandate that I must carry insurance but then only limit me to only purchasing what my employer provides. This is a ludicrous proposal and I really don't understand how the Democrats are going to be able to defend this.
Now, I'm not certain if Snowe's proposal is a red herring or not. I tend to think that she really does want HCR so I give her the benefit of the doubt. I really like her proposal and I wish Democrats would get on board with it.
