(From TWD)
Here is another reason why we all should be in felicitation that Alan Grayson didn't apologize, nor would Nancy Pelosi would come close to making him apologize.
The heartless bastard ways of Paul Broun.
Watch this answer he gives to a young guy, who has gone into debt because he can't afford insurance for his major depressive disorder.
Just......watch.
For those who can't hear, this is what happened:
In response to his constituent’s story, Broun said that “people who have depression, who have chronic diseases in this country…can always get care in this country by going to the emergency room.” That comment prompted boos from the crowd. Towards the end of Broun’s answer, a constituent yelled, “That’s why we need a public option!” which brought cheers from the audience.
Broun went on talking through, ignoring that cry and continued being a heartless bastard like he is.
This is the same bastard that said the public option would kill people.
Can't wait to see what next cold, careless thing he or any other mendacious SOP figure, will say. I just can't wait.
(From TWD, never a heartless bastard, Peace.)
Updated: In the comments, voroki tells me (and you, if you didn't know like me) that this bastard is a doctor.
I need to see the patients of this guy, because it is one scary thought to picture this man practicing. SCARY.
Updated 2: A person knowing the full brunt of Broun's unstable mind is LibrariAnne. Read this to get a local perspective on a nutcase.
I feel like I should apologize that this jerk is taking up a seat in Congress and sucking up government-run health care.
Seven years ago, when my husband and I had no health insurance, a doctor at a doc-in-the-box we had gone to when my husband showed signs of jaundice had to tell us that the tests were looking very like pancreatic cancer. I remember thinking, this doctor is supposed to be diagnosing sprained ankles and strep throat, not cancer. After being admitted through the ER and one hellish week later, we got the better news that it was "just" pancreatitis that was about to kill him.
And Broun is right that doctors are treating patients who show up in such circumstances. The ones we met at the ER that night were magnificent. Both the admitting doc who provided follow-up care and the cancer surgeon who performed a major operation that took about 7 hours never billed us. Both wrote off their work entirely and frankly, I don't think that's fair to them. They worked hard to save my husband's life and I don't think under a capitalist system that it's right that they have to do this.
Does Broun think this is the way to treat hardworking professionals? Truth is, all of us in any job end up doing a certain amount of work that is not billable or paid. But when our government refuses to allow a public option, they are in effect forcing you to do that, no matter what your circumstances are, and that doesn't seem right.
Updated 3: And KayCeSF looks at his wikipedia page and finds that he graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He also made a certain prediction for next year:
In May 2009, Broun proposed legislation that 2010 be proclaimed "The Year Of The Bible.
Now I laughed a little when I saw this. But then, as a Christian, just personably speaking here, while I chuckle, I get a little dishearten at how idiots will do things like that "in the name of Christianity." They bring embarrassment to the faith as a whole, and make themselves look more nutty to the non-religious crowd who will have every right to be frightened by irrational buffoons like this.
Updated 4: And in the many great videos from Scarce on Broun's disturbing antics, here is this one to watch:

Georgia Republican Representative Paul Broun actually showed up in Athens and did another health care town hall at the VFW on Monday 9/28.
I asked him my question again.
I don't think he likes me.
I don't think the clapping old timers in the audience liked me much either.
I am pleased with the results.
Says it all, doesn't it.
