Mr. President, your steady, unrelenting nature has served you well. You seek calm when the mood is fearful.
But times of change, real transformational change, come down to a few precious moments in history. Moments in which transformation is actually possible. We are in one of those moments now, one millions of us worked to create for you, but more importantly, for Us. You have been awarded the Nobel Prize on the sheer power of the dimmest hope shared by billions of us that you will truly take this mantle we have fashioned for you with Our blood and Our tears for decades under the rule of Reagan's Raiders. Our livlihood is disappearing all around us. We are being poisoned and gagged by corporate powers gone wild.
Seize this moment, because it is where greatness waits to be found and seized upon. Step into it. Reach, here, in this context, as far beyond your grasp as you have ever dared to dream.
The chattering classes, the teabaggers, the shattered, but desperate, political opposition -- they have also been systematic. They also have been incremental. They have tracked your message and distorted it with powerful words like "death panels" and "killing grandma". That is their craft, perfected by a machine of communication control three decades in the making.
Such is the nature of the game when you entered the arena. Each thrust has been parried. Each turn has been matched. You have gained ground by the power of your rhetoric and the hope of your vision. But you cannot advance further alone. Remember you do not stand there alone.
Millions of us are ready to act. We are willing to sacrifice for our fellow citizens and our children's legacy. We are beyond politics. Our friends are dying from lack of health insurance. Our jobs are vanishing or being diminished. Our power to purchase things necessary is being stripped away through pernicious pursuit of profits depraved beyond the pale.
We have nothing left, Mr. President, in the present. The past is dead to us. We don't care about the banter and the bullshit any more. The hue and cry of all the electronic media is fading away as we rise together to look for a future. Whatever will make Us feel prosperous and protected again, it cannot be had with money or military might. We've lost all that already.
We rise to look to a future. There is no where else we want to be. Today the Nobel Committee rose, at risk of ridicule, and turned to look in the same direction as the rest of us, billions around the world -- indeed the first Silent Majority worldwide in the history of the planet.
We see you in that future. At first, We saw that future in you. We are past that now. Now We see that future for Ourselves, and We envision you turning to it with Us. You don't have to worry about Us any more. We are the People and, one way or another, We will survive this. Americans need to be looking to the future to be at Our best. We tend to only do this together when the future is at stake and the present is unbearable.
We are there now. You can continue to be distracted by the give-and-go of the game in Washington, but you have a chance We only grant a very few fellow citizens -- of America and of the world. We are looking together to a future without the Patriot Act, with a military one-half the overkill it is now, without walls along our borders -- walls, Mr. President? -- or national identity cards of any kind or....
You know the things that are wrong. That are evil. That Reagan's Raiders falsely seduced us into sort of believing in exchange for selling out on the America we envisioned at the end of the Sixties. The future like Star Trek showed us, instead of what Bladerunner showed us. We sold it for a Lotto ticket's chance to be rich and a 401k. We The People put a man on the moon, and then ten years later sold our national soul to the lowest bidder -- the erstwhile Moral Majority. We sold it cheap, and more's the pity for the years we have lost.
We are ready for a future where We can be prosperous, but not rich; where We can be generous without -- truly without -- expectation of "outcomes"; where We are healed when We are sick without cost being linked to the nature of the disease; and where We are wise to the wiles of the Raiders' Message Machine.
You have been playing defense too much, Mr. President. Drive to the basket. Shift your mind to offense. You know your opponents now, in the way players come to know each other in the action of the game. You should know they have lost their support by Us and now take all their vainglory from focusing on you.
Take the shot you can make now, Mr. President. Single-payor insurance. Now. Without warning. End the drug war, the post-911 fear machinery, the coddling of oil-rich nations. Order every vehicle in the Federal fleet be an electric car -- in a year. Bring in the antitrust teams and start breaking up the opolies of various stripes and flavors. We are ready to transform. You are in the arena because We put you there. We put you there to play for Us. We put you there to win the future We are now seeing.
Cut the military budget in half. Deploy diplomats and make our allies and former enemies stand up for international peace that they all now so desperately need. Withdraw Our might and extend Our hand without wavering and without equivocation. Demand respect for justice and disdain for greed.
Your boldness has been blunted. Your instincts have been held in check. We know the opposition's weakness: they rise and fall now by reflection against you instead of by standing on their own solutions. They need you to be bold so they have to deal with the tsunami of issues which pour forth from bold action. They will have to change and become better citizens themselves to compete. The political opposition's best future is one in which the moderates and libertarians shatter the chains of avarice and ignorance by which they have become bound to the religiositists and the separatists.
Chaos will not ensue from bold change that pushes us all to the edge of our endurance and to the maw of necessity -- it is there we will find innovation. Chaos is what We have now -- insidious chaos thirty years in the making -- rotting the core of our national soul with false visions of endless plenty to be exploitly without guilt or reason. We want to be made righteous again by right action. We need massive change in all directions all at once to remove the chains which bind Us now.
The other side of this transformation is where We can start businesses among Ourselves without mediation by something "too big to fail" that has failed Us All nonetheless. Empower Us to lift these burdens from Our Hearts and ensure Our sacred privacy is enshrined against the law 'n order madness which brings injustice visited upon us all equally, without reason or cause. Law enforcement has languished over thirty years of rapicious disregard for civil liberties. It has become ever weaker for it. It protects us no longer from the truth of our perfidy in allowing Reagan's Raiders free rein for so long.
Shrink the prisons by releasing the political prisoners criminalized by small-minded Legislators. Shrink them by treating the mentally ill. Shrink them by educating the young and caring for the sick. Shrink them by ending economic dispair. Prisons measure a society's righteousness better than mouthing the name of God (and pretending such an entity would support the petty aims of craven politicians. Or even notice them). That measure finds Us wanting. We know We can do better, and We are ready for the change to redeem ourselves.
Enforce the Constitution. End the madness. Set Us free, Mr. President, and set Us loose. We are ready to bring the change. We see billions of futures and We see you in it.
Stand up, Mr. President. Turn squarely to stand with Us. Shut out the opposition, for this moment. Win the game by taking the risk instead of running the game. We see that moment now. The longer you do not step up and take it, the more we feel that promise we now see will slip away.
We're beyond rooting for you, Mr. President. Now the Nobel Committee has stood with Us. We're rooting for Ourselves. We're looking to you to seize the moment We have created for you so We can win the game. We're cleared the lane. We've screened the defenders. You have the shot if you are finally ready to take it.
Take the shot, Mr. President. Take it now. Whether it sinks the first time matters not, for We are ready to rebound and bring it back and shoot ourselves. But We The People need someone to take the shot. We chose you as Our leader and then set about creating a moment like this when you can lead as We need you to lead. You have been chosen by circumstance made possible by Our work to have this shot to take.
Stand up, Mr. President. Look away from the past and the present. Look with Us. Stand with Us. Shut out the present and the past. Square off to the basket and take the shot. Give Us the mojo only you can give Us now. Change the game. For Us. We are ready to play like there is no future to secure a real future in which We can live like We want to live again. Join Us in playing for keeps like the future depends on it.
Because the Truth of this moment is, it does.
