Over the past months, I've profiled every House race (all 435). It took me 19 diaries.
In this diary, I go through those and pick out the races I thought might be competitive. This is part 1 - through Colorado
More below the fold
(incumbent listed first)
AL-03 Mike Rogers (R, Inc) vs. Josh Segall http://www.segallforcongress.com/... Segall ran against Rogers in 2008, when he lost, 53-47. Rogers, first elected in 2002, has won with smaller margins each time. Rogers has raised about $300,000, and spent about a third of that. Segall has raised almost $100,000.
AL-05 Parker Griffith (D, Inc) vs. Les Phillip (R) and Mo Brooks. Griffith is a freshman Democrat in a heavily Republican district. The seat was formerly held by Bud Cramer, one of the most conservative Democrats in the House. Griffith has raised about half a million, and spent about $100K. Phillip has raised less than $100K and spent most of it.
CA-03 Dan Lungren (R, Inc) v. Amerish Bera and Bill Slaton. I liked Gary Davis, who has dropped out. Of the remaining two, I like Slaton. Lungren has not raised much - about $300K, and the two Democrats about $200K each. In 2008, Lungren beat Bill Durston 50-44, but Obama and McCain were even. Lungren, first elected in 2004, has won with smaller margins each time.
CA-04 Thomas McClintock (R) vs Charlie Brown. McClintock was first elected in 2008, with a margin of 622 votes out of 340,000, running against Charlie Brown. Now, Brown wants a rematch. McClintock has raised about $600K and spent nearly all of it, I have no fundraising info on Brown.
CA-19 George Radonovich (R) vs. Les Marsden. Radonovich has spent almost all that he's raised; I have no fundraising figures for Marsden. This one will be competitive only if Radonovich retires.
CA-25 Buck McKeon (R) vs. Jacquese Conaway. McKeon won easily against Conaway in 2008, but there are rumors he might retire.
CA-44 Ken Calvert (R) vs. Bill Hedrick. I really like Hedrick. He's the first candidate I gave money to, this cycle. In 2008, Calvert beat Hedrick, 52-48, his first close race in a long time. Obama won 50-49 here. However, Hedrick has raised very little money.
CO-04 Betsey Markey (D) has at least two Republican challengers. In 2008, Markey beat incumbent Marilyn Musgrave 56-44, but Musgrave was very controversial, and this is a Republican district - although Obama lost only 50-49.
