I'm introducing a bill to the Student Senate called "The Omnibus NHTI Quality of life Improvement Act of 2009." If there is one thing that George Bush ever gave me, it's the idea of getting through an Omnibus bill, in which most of my awesome ideas can be all voted on at once.
So here it is...
- Sustainable, Local, Organic, Vegan/Vegetarian food
- An end to being forced to buy keygens/codes for course material
- A free and open website that includes all the course curriculum (Like MIT has)
- An end to corporate sponsorship of NHTI sports teams. Instead, sponsorship from local businesses.
"Corporate" As defined as: Any company that employs over 300 employees.
- An ecological economics class. I have seen a student carry around a book by Mankiw. The economics that Mankiw teaches is tragically outdated. Attached to the bill is an article you can read at your leisure to see what I am talking about. (That would be the link I just posted)
- A water fountain on every floor of every building
- Light-saving technology for the refrigorators and vending machines, the kind that don't light up, unless you get close to them.
- Carry phone cards in the bookstore.
- Replace all lightbulbs with compact Flourescent if we haven't done so already.
- All homework/Tests/Assignments that have 2 pages, must instead be double sided.
...And this is all I have so far. Maybe all of you dreamers and visionaries could help one out. Last year I realized how easy it was to make change in the Student Senate. I actually helped our school go trayless for 2 out of the 5 weekdays (Trayless "T-days" we call them)So here you go, Have at it!
