Let's be clear: I will support the Democratic nominee for president, and I want him to win.
This means that I want the Republican candidate to lose.
That being said, the idea that you want the lamest possible Republican to be their party's nominee in order to grease the skids for the Democratic nominee is wrong.
It is entirely possible that the Republicans could nominate someone completely unqualified and unsuited to the job, and, with a few electoral hi-jinks in Florida and a compliant group of whores* for the press, he could actually be elected.
So, when one looks at the Republican politicians who have national stature, Dan Quayle is the best of the bunch.
