A massive 787-billion-dollar stimulus package passed by Congress earlier this year saved at least 250,000 education jobs across the country, the White House said Monday.
"This is one more indication of how the Recovery Act is helping soften the blow of tough times, by keeping educators on the job and teachers in the classroom," commented Vice President Joe Biden.

The early stages of the federal stimulus program created or saved at least 4,370 jobs in Oklahoma, according to a Tulsa World analysis of preliminary reports filed by the Office of State Finance.
The office stressed that the figures are preliminary and certain to change.
The numbers were compiled from reports by state agencies and do not include money spent by federal agencies such as the Department of Defense or funds disbursed to tribal governments. It also does not include some large distributions to the state, including some unemployment benefits and more than $300 million for Medicaid.

Here's proof of federal stimulus money hard at work.
In the past 9-months, the Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association helped more than 47,000 people in the tri-county area who've lost their jobs. That's a 100-percent increase since last year. The group received $3.5-million in stimulus money. The association was facing a 13-percent reduction in funding, but they managed to increase staffing at the One-Stop Workforce Centers by 12-percent.
Part of the stimulus money also helped more than 500 people find work through the Summer Youth Program.

Stimulus investment increases small business loan approvals

Federal stimulus money has made finding a nice dress in Perris, an Italian lunch in Hemet or dozens of other goods and services easier, and helped keep small businesses afloat in the rough economic waters of the past few months.
Hundreds of businesses in Riverside and San Bernardino counties received small business loans backed by stimulus money, most doled out by the Small Business Administration.
