Tell me why Democrats should vote for blue dogs. McAuliffe (damn near a blue dog himself, but not all the way) or Moran would have been better. Why did NoVa listen to the WaPo and vote for Deeds. Now he's trashing the public option:
Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds said he "shared the broad goals" of health care reform, but would "certainly consider opting out" of a public option "if that were available to Virginia."
"I'm not afraid of going against my fellow Democrats when they're wrong," Deeds said. "A public option isn't required in my view."
TPM
Video after the fold.
Yes, I bet Deeds has medical insurance.
If I were a Virginian, I'd consider opting out of voting for Deeds. Once again, we see a Democrat stabbing Democrats in the back.
If you have extra money and are looking to contribute in this election, I'd give it to Corzine in the New Jersey Governor's race. He can win and he is a real Democrat.
Corzine For Governor.
Especially in times like these, it is essential that our leaders hold firm to our core values and show the courage to do the right thing.
My administration has been, and will continue to be, guided by the same values that I’ve championed since my tenure as your U.S. Senator. I believe in the constant search for the common good – in our responsibility to nurture our children, honor our seniors, and protect those among us who are most vulnerable.
These values have guided everything that I do as governor. Let’s continue to work together in promoting economic opportunity for all New Jersey families, and in building a bright future for our kids and grandkids.
I'm through with blue dogs like Deeds.
Update I: There's more and it's even worse. He opposes cap and trade and EFCA:
Democrat Creigh Deeds tried to distance himself from two initiatives emerging in Congress, saying he opposes Democratic proposals aimed at curbing greenhouse emissions and making it easier for unions to organize.
Deeds, McDonnell square off in debate

Whatever.
Deeds Campaign Statement on Health Care Reform, Public Option
In the aftermath of Creigh's controversial comments at last night's debate regarding whether Virginia might "opt out" of a public option under a Deeds governorship, the Deeds campaign has issued a statement on health care reform and the public option.
Like President Obama, Creigh Deeds is committed to reducing health care costs and providing coverage for the 1.1 million Virginians without insurance. If the public option proves to be the best way to reach those objectives, he’d support having Virginia participate. He’ll examine all of the proposals on the table and choose the option than provides Virginians with the most affordable and quality coverage.
Creigh’s approach is eminently more responsible that Bob McDonnell’s. Last night, McDonnell put ideology ahead of Virginia’s best interests when he said he’d oppose a public option – which he previously said would cause a "government takeover" of health care -- even if it’s proven the best way to control health care costs.
Yes, now trying the weasel words and trying to tie himself to Obama, but Obama always said he prefers the public option, and Mr. Deeds said he opposes it.
Mr. Deeds, how stupid do you think voters are? You are not "like" Barack Obama.
Update III: Eli Kaplan who works for the Deeds campaign is in the comments here: Eli Kaplan
He also posted the Deeds clarification which is in my Update II. I think people should respectfully engage Mr. Kaplan and allow him a chance to explain. Mr. Deeds' opponent is terrible. But the more I read of Mr. Deeds' positions, the more underwhelmed I am. Still, he deserves fairness and especially Virginians should direct questions and comments to Mr. Kaplan.
Update IV: I want to be fair. Mr. Kaplan is responding to people in the comments and I will add his latest comment here. People should hear him out and make up their own minds.
Anyway, here is Mr. Kaplan's comment:
Thanks for adding to the diary, Tom (1+ / 0-)

I definitely take issue with your claim that Creigh opposes the "core of President Obama's agenda."
Creigh has vigorously defended the President's handling of the economy in numerous public forums. He supported the stimulus package, and has hammered Bob McDonnell for opposing using money from the stimulus package to pay for unemployment benefits.
Just today we announced that President Obama will be coming to campaign with Creigh next week.
We also released a new television ad featuring President Obama.

Please engage Mr. Kaplan respectfully and hear him out. If nothing else, it is an opportunity to convince Mr. Deeds to adopt more core Democratic Party positions, such as supporting EFCA, cap and trade, and rejecting even consideration of opting out of a public option.
