My Facebook wall sent a chill down my spine. I took a look at what I had posted yesterday all in a space of 17 minutes.
The first was from Media Matters, and I posted it at 1:45pm ET.
Rep. Harper: "We Hunt Liberal, Tree-Hugging Democrats"
The blurb that appeared on my wall:
The latest edition of Politico's "Get To Know A Congressman" series features Rep. Gregg Harper (R-MS). In the interview, Harper was asked about the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus, which advocates for hunters and fisherman in Congress:
The next posting came at 1:51pm ET and was from Pam's House Blend:
Unprecendented death threats against President - up 400% - Secret Service overwhelmed, underfunded
Gee, now why would Barack Obama be the recipient of more threats than say, oh, George W. Bush, a president vilified by a large segment of the public (aside from his 20% base)? Hmmm?
And finally I posted this at 2:02pm ET from the The Post and Courier, Charleston, SC:
S.C. needs to stop the stupidity
Let's get this straight: The White House has allowed first lady Michelle Obama to tool around Moscow, the Czech Republic and even Ghana in the past year, but officials are a little worried about her coming to South Carolina.
Which I got from susan in sc's dairy, SC Not Safe for First Lady to Visit? (Update2)
I hadn't planned it that way. I was just posting things as I found them. But after posting these three I just stopped and looked. The cosmos and serendipity both couldn't have underscored a progression any better.
It is any wonder we are concerned? For the president and his family (hard targets) and us as well (soft targets).
Pandora must have been a Republican. But actually that comparison might be too harsh . . .
. . . to Pandora.
Pandora has been placed in a catch-22. She's been given a box/jar for a wedding present and told not to open it. She'd also been given the gift of curiosity by the gods.
She could have been the patron saint of the sciences (she was robbed I tells ya). But for ever she will be known as unleashing pain, evils, disease and the like upon the world.
(must.not.write.oppression of the scared feminine rant here)
The Republicans have no such cover. Their drumming up, dog whistling, working over and playing to the insecurity, fear, anger, alienation and racism (overt and covert) of their core wasn't some accident. Our history is replete with examples of what happens when people are worked to a frenzy.
I also found one other comparison to the story of Pandora's Box. And believe me I wish this wasn't so corny, it's so fitting it looks quite planned or staged.
In the bottom of the box, after Pandora let loose all the ills that plagued mankind, she found
yes she really did
