The nation at large seems to be warming up to medical marijuana, with California leading the way, but LA City Attorney Carmen Trutanich, and LA County District Attorney Steve Cooley have failed to see the writing on the wall and are trying to turn back the clock.
At a time when polls show that 74 percent of LA County residents support the state's medical marijuana law, and Eric Holder has expressed the Obama administration's intention to respect state laws on this issue, the LAPD has set in motion a plan to eradicate medical marijuana dispensaries in the county.
In addition to at least two raids conducted last week, the new campaign involves the posting of a Fox News story called "Medical Marijuana or Pot Shops?" on the LA City Attorney Vimeo page. Despite the will of the voters, the LA City Attorney and County District Attorney are actually engaging in public activism against established laws.
Meanwhile, most California voters say they favor outright legalization, and at least three measures are currently gathering signatures for the ballot in 2010. I know of two of them:

If you live in CA, please consider supporting these initiatives.
The LA City Council is also considering a new highly restrictive ordinance aimed at effectively eliminating medical marijuana dispensaries. If you are a resident of Los Angeles, please contact your council member and tell them where you stand on the issue.
