My girlfriend and I went to an anti-gay rally in DC on Sunday. She captured this footage.
It was the first time I was actually a little frightened to be around anti-gays
There's also this gem from last night's marriage equality hearing:
**A commenter expressed concern that these videos may be advancing the meme that blacks are especially homophobic. I want to be clear that I do not believe that, and I was not trying to make that point. Most of the people at this rally just happened to be black (not surprising since a majority of DC is black). Homophobia plagues all communities. And the notion that there is some black vs. gay battle only creates counter-productive resentment on both sides, and it is flat out wrong.
I wish I had more footage from yesterday's marriage hearing in the DC council. There were scores of African Americans (and many other races/ethnicities), including several members of the clergy and straight allies, who delivered very powerful and touching testimony on behalf of marriage equality.**
