I don't buy his statement this morning. If he was serious about trying to get the leadership to go with a different approach, he would have released his public statement BEFORE Reid announced that the combined Senate bill would include a Public Option. I believe that this is a power play by Lieberman, and that he sat this process out quietly until it was time for him to make his move. The question is what he wants from all of this. His timing is very curious, and to me, indicates that he feels alone and cast aside, and this is his way of trying to change that.
Earlier this year, when many on this site were upset with the party for not stripping Lieberman of his gavel, I believe the President and Senate Leadership were anticipating a situation like this exactly. If he had lost his gavel back then, this process would have been that much more difficult.
Well, it's my two cents anyways, and I don't buy a word he says.
