At the moment, if you add up his stature and his effort, no one in Congress is taking a more aggressive stance in favor of the public option than Harry Reid.

He has pressured the president to support it. He has put Congress on notice that he supports it. He has twisted arms and invited all of us to twist arms as well.

If you'd like to help Harry twist some arms, click here.

Harry has been a disappointment as majority leader, but for once I'm happy with the guy. I hope he succeeds.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

and waited some more, we (meaning I) get a bit miffed at ol' Harry.

But he's stepped up now, and better late than never.

It's time to cut him some slack and support him while he is supporting our position, for a change.

Kudos for a good job on introducing a Senate bill containing a Public Option.

      Nothing more, nothing less.

It's the next steps that are going to be tricky and dangerous.

the beginning? Cause that's Obama's excuse. He has supposedly known all along he can't get a public option so he cut deals early on with all the major health industry players. Supposedly.

  •  Oh BS (0+ / 0-)

Reid sat on his ass while the public option was killed or least neutered. Now he wants to make noises like he was/is for a strong public option. Well the SOB is five months too late. Personally I don't believe a word he says. He ought to get out of the Majority Leader’s chair and the Senate as well and join his other family members in Lobbying for a living. He is useless as a Democratic Senator.

Yeah, Harry Reid is NOT the most aggressive one in Congress on the PO. After all the diaries on this site hailing one congressman or another for the past several months, Harry Reid who is just now speaking up about the PO gets the award for best effort? Yes, I'm sure his suck ass poll numbers have nothing to do with it.

And O has spoken out longer and louder for the PO than Harry Reid, so this crap about convincing the president to do it is bull. The only thing Harry had to convince the President of is that he can get the votes for it. The President said he supports whatever Harry wants and he meant it.

And I'm warning all of you now. Put all your hope in Harry Reid and you will be disappointed. Sure he might get the votes for the PO, but what about the next legislation and the legislation after that?  What are you going to do when Harry Reid falls back into that congressman you so despised just TEN days ago?  Will there be diary after diary crying betrayal?

Ease up, fall back, cause Harry Reid ain't no hero. He will disappoint again, but don't blame him. blame this tendency that the Left has of putting people on a pedestal and then knocking them down once they step out of line. Am I the only one who sees this vicious cycle?

it's a part of reform, not reform in its entirety.

He has spoken about calling our elected officials..and we certainly have had our rallies and marches here through OFA. I don't know what it is you are waiting for. Surely there have been events in your area. Do you really need Obama to tell you to call your elected officials?
