Well folks, the results are in - and you overwhelmingly voted for me to write in Rachel Maddow for Governor of Virginia! Rachel won 54% of the vote to 15% for Tina Fey. Supporters of Tina Fey waged a hard fought battle, but in the end, Maddow's progressive credentials carried the day for Maddow. So, I will be writing in Rachel Maddow for Governor.
Now, for all of you progressives out there who are totally disgusted with Creigh Deeds, take a pen with you to the polls and write in Rachael Maddow for Governor. And also join me in voting for the Democratic candiates for Lt. Governor, Jody Wagner, and Attorney General, Steve Shannon. Shannon's race is the most important to salvage out of this fiasco, as his opponent make Bob McDonnell look like a granola eating liberal from Boulder, CO.
The latest polls have Deeds losing by about 13 points, with Deeds stuck at 41% to 53% for McDonnell. The remaining 6% will either not vote or probably vote for McDonnell.
Have you ever heard of the phrase "the fish rots from the head down?" Well, unfortunately, this phrase applies perfectly to this election cycle in Virginia. Deeds campaign fell apart two months ago and he is likely to pull down his running mates as well as numerous House of Delegates races.
A memeber of our community wrote an interesting comment to my diary yesterday:
[new] Dreadful campaign though (5+ / 0-)

I live in Richmond and I have only seen McDonnell ads on TV. Additionally, there appears to be ZERO outreach to minority voters (of which there are many in VA). The last poll I heard on the radio still had a rather significant portion of voters still "undecided". I suspect a lot of those undecideds are minority voters who feel completely ignored by Deeds and his pathetic campaign. After the wins from Warner and Kaine for governor, and Webb's razor thin victory for the senate I was starting to believe that the Democratic party in VA had finally found some strength and savvy. This recent campaign has been reminiscent of the state party in 80's and 90's. Bascially no presence on TV and none on the street. I've seen exactly two Deeds signs all campaign and none of them are in the mostly minority neighborhood that I live in.

I have been checking with my sources close to the Deeds campaign and they confirmed Triscula's thoughts above. The reason Triscula does not see any televisions ads or signs in the Richmond area is because the Deeds campaign decided to write off the Greater Richmond area, shortly after Labor Day!! Can you beleive it? According to last years election returns, Obama won 79% of the vote in the City of Richmond and carried Henreco County with 56%! Where in the state do they think they will make up these votes?
My sources also tell me that the GOTV plan in NOVA has finally come together, after bringing a guy named Nick in as the regional field director. According to sources, absentee ballots are running 2 to 1 in favor of Dems. GOTV operations in NOVA are expected to be strong as a result of this guy. However, GOTV is non-existent in the Richmond area, and is severely anemic in the southeastern portion of the state, which will probably result in a Republican sweep of all three statewide offices and a net loss of 8 seats in the House of Delegates.
In short, Deeds is toast! Write in Rachel Maddow for Governor!
