For a fun little distraction, I've found several quotes from Will Rogers (November 4, 1879 – August 15, 1935) that felt hauntingly appropriate these days. Please enjoy:
An economist's guess is liable to be as good as anybody else's.
Democrats never agree on anything, that's why they're Democrats. If they agreed with each other, they would be Republicans.
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke.

I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.
Note: Will Rogers had plenty to say against big government too - I have cherry picked these quotes like mad. I can't decide if this is one of those quotes or not.
I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!

Politics has become so expensive that it takes a lot of money even to be defeated.
The 1928 Republican Convention opened with a prayer. If the Lord can see His way clear to bless the Republican Party the way it's been carrying on, then the rest of us ought to get it without even asking.
Things ain't what they used to be and never were.
My personal favorite, and one I think of every time Republicans or tea-baggers complain that they want to roll back the clock to "a better time."
