So gay people still cannot get married in Maine. Rest easy, homophobic backwoods bigots... your precious marriage is safe.
For now.
It was very, very close.
And we will keep trying.
And one day we will stand before you just as married as you are. With the same rights and the same protections and the same benefits.
Progress will be made despite your hatred and your ignorance.
Gay people in America are used to this. One step forward, two steps back. But the tide is turning and it will continue to turn. Your hopeless bid to protect your drive-thru window, marriage-by-Elvis "sacred" institution will fail. It's only a matter of time and we are patient because we have no choice.
Our young people are increasingly pro-gay marriage. They are learning that hatred of a group of people simply because of whom they love is wrong. They are learning this despite you. Or maybe because of you.
Go take a look in the mirror... a long, hard look.
You are looking at a dying breed.
(My apologies for the short diary but this really says it all for me. I am so sad and angry but we must not stop. We must not look back. We look forward and we move on and we try again, as we always have. As we will continue to do until we are we are equal under all laws.)
