Okay, well, here in VA where Republicans swept governor, lt. governor, and AG elections -- let's look ahead to 2010.
The Old Redneck and Sweet Thing live in Northumberland County on Virginia's Northern Neck -- where the population of tractors, deer, wild turkey, dogs, and boats is about double the people population. Lots of Republicans and an active freak show of teabaggers, too.
We are represented -- such as it is -- in Congress (VA-01) by Rob Wittman, Republican. Nothing against Rob, but, he's a wimp, not particularly smart, and he's a party hack.
Rob barely won a special election over a popular Democrat after the then-representative (Republican) died of cancer. In 2008, he defeated Bill Day, Democrat -- but Day started campaigning only a few weeks before the election.
Now, in 2010, Wittman will face a serious candidate who announced his candidacy in August: Scott Robinson, Democrat, retired Army colonel, graduate of Northumberland County High School.

The Old Redneck has met Scott several times. Scott's an action-oriented guy with a lot of energy and not afraid to call himself a DEMOCRAT.
Scott served as Senior Military Advisor, Homeland Defense, Office of the Secretary of Defense beginning in 2007. He earned an MBA from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and is a 2008 graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership. In describing why he's running, Robinson talks about the values of "honesty, hard work, and accountability," as well as "improving my community and serving my country."
Scott's national security credentials are impeccable. In purple Virginia, he's a hunter, a solid family man, fiscally responsible, progressive.
If we start now, we can take VA-01 for the Democrats.
