It would truly seem the more things change the more they stay the same. I can offer my less - than - 2 cents' worth observations about yesterday and look back to the wonderfully historic but at the same time heart - breaking results from a year ago today.
So, let's get the proverbial party started!
We all remember that a year ago today, the guy that Senator McCentury dismissed as "that one" in one of the debates last year became the "one" that WON! I still am & always will be shaking my head in surprise & joy about THIS MOMENT in particular.
There are 2 times in my life when I was desperately happy to be wrong about something; this night last year was one of those times!
We must not forget, though, what else happened a year ago tonight. California voters approved Prop 8, a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage, overturning a state Supreme Court decision that gave gay couples the right to wed just months earlier. After what happened in Maine last night, I'm just...well...words more - or - less escape me other than *&^%$#@! I will never understand what makes people vote against love, stability, and compassion.
I hope lessons are learned from the Governors' races in VA & NJ in preparation for 2010 voting efforts; I won't hold my breath. But, I am giggling like a naughty little girl at the NY - 23 result! To Boss Limbaugh, Lonesome Rhodes, Dick Armey, & St. Sarah from Wasilla, et al I offer this.
I finally had a chance today to read this Daily Beast column about what Grandma ExGov TurkeyLover was just dyin' to say this night last year. I think she got these speeches from a book of MadLibs & just plugged and chugged some appropriate choice words in appropriate places. Anyone who decides of their own free will to dive into "that woman's" book should have their head examined. But, under the GOP health "care" plan, doing that won't be covered because insanity's probably a pre - existing condition - HA!
Let's Countdown.
Gee, I simply cannot imagine where Keith might be tonight. ;) You could’ve painted me shocked if Keith had been "home" tonight! Thanks for Lawrence O’Donnell for DHing!
#5 "The Right Reacts" AKA "Tea Party Over?" AKA "The Day After" - St. Sarah from Wasilla & her fellow bat$hit wingnut acolytes are trying to portray what happened yesterday in NY – 23 as a victory. Whatever... The full – time Facebooker from AK said today,
The race for New York’s 23rd district is not over, just postponed until 2010!
Dear, denial ain’t just a river in Egypt! Wait, that saying’s probably lost on you since you can’t see Egypt from your house, or maybe you THINK you can see Egypt from your house. Do you know what Egypt is? Others are saying that even though the conservative candidate lost, the moderate GOPer had to drop out, so the conservative still won. Ya’ know, in wingnut world, that probably makes sense! Boss Limbaugh was playing the blame game for NY – 23 on everyone except himself & "that woman," of course. Dick Armey is planning to continue his efforts to force moderate GOPers out of races throughout the country since it worked so well yesterday! ;D Cornhole Cornyn told Politico,
There’s no incentive for us to weigh in. We have to look at our resources.
So, the people in charge in the Senate of helping GOPers in the nation get elected are either embracing the efforts to drive the moderates out or are giving up at trying to control said efforts. Michael Steele said today that the GOP "renaissance" has begun. I’m just betting he doesn’t really know what the Renaissance was all about, either; I’m betting he would’ve been trying to help execute Galileo! While touting the GOP Governor victories in VA & NJ, he forgot to mention that he endorsed both losing candidates in NY – 23. To go "off topic" just briefly here, Creigh Deeds was/is a moran, so him losing doesn’t concern me all that much. Corzine losing, however, in a state where he should’ve had his proverbial act together, worries me slightly. Maybe, one of y’all more knowledgeable about the political climate there can enlighten me! The Dem candidate won in CA – 10, too. To go "off topic" again, Markos or some other "higher up" in Daily Kos land needs to create & start marketing stuffed NoNos just in time for the upcoming holiday season! If they turn out to be a hit, I won’t demand too much of a piece of the action for giving them the idea! ;D I hate to disagree with Chris Kofinis, but how the spark is the guy that won in VA last night a "centrist"?!
#4 "Lessons Learned" AKA "Base Slumping" - According to Lawrence, turn out is key especially in off – year elections that we saw yesterday. And, apparently, Dems did not turn out much – AT ALL – yesterday. Does this explain what happened in Maine with the marriage equality vote? The Dem "base" did not vote in VA & NJ yesterday. Both the Dems who won their Congressional races yesterday endorsed President Obama’s plans for health care – including a public option. Hey! Our Great Orange Satanic leader’s ears must be burning ‘cause here he is! ;D Markos, get on those stuffed NoNos ASAP, will ya’? Thanks...I know you’ve got nothing better to do. Corzine’s approval rating in NJ was 30%??!! $HIT! No wonder he lost! President Obama’s good, but he’s not a miracle worker. What did now – former Gov. Corzine do in NJ to "endear" him so much to residents of The Garden State? Markos did a great job of linking jobs & the economy to fixing health care – not that I think too many Dem candidates will listen.
#3 "Maine Question One" AKA "Maine Rolls Back Freedom" AKA "Marital Blitz" - Ugh...I really don’t want to revisit this, but here we go. Voters in Maine voted 52% to 47% to reject letting same – sex couples to get married. Holy crap! I didn’t know this language was part of the question on the ballot!
...and allow individuals and religious groups to refuse to perform these marriages...
$HIT! THAT’s why Maine happened last night. Dammit, people should know by now that once you through the religious element into questions like this, the hate & scare & religious jihad mongers will drive out the vote in full force! Whoever decided that language should’ve been on the ballot issue should be strung up by their buster browns (if a guy) & by their thumb nails (if a woman lacking in "buster browns)! Marc Mutty, Mr. Stand for Marriage Maine, insists what happened last night has absolutely NOTHING to do with anyone HATING anyone. Yea...right...whatever... Ya’ didn’t hear Nazis come right out & say directly too many times they hated Jews, but that didn’t stop them from murdering 6 million of them. Mr. Mutty’s a "good" Catholic, too. Yea, so was Dan White. The news was slightly better in WA & MI. Oh, Dan Savage should be GOOD! O...M...G... I KNEW DAN WHITE WOULD BE GOOD! OK, this is going to rile up some people, but what he said bears repeating!
President Obama is a fierce advocate of gay rights the same way I’m a ladies’ man!
OUCH MAN! Funny but OUCH! Dan Savage also promised no money to the DNC when they come knocking on his door again. Ya’ know, I don’t blame him one iota. Dan echoed a bit of a point I heard on NPR this afternoon that I’m increasingly thinking is correct. Meaningful pro – marriage equality or civil partnerships carrying the same rights & privileges as "oppositely married" people may have to come from the federal level & federal courts. That’s what’s happening now with DOMA & the Prop 8 efforts led by Ted Olson & what’s his name (name’s escaping me now, sorry!).
#2 "GOP’s Failing Health" AKA "Doctors in the House" - Bat$hit Bachmann wants her acolytes to invade DC. You’ll be able to find her in the Congressional sex clinic. She wants mobs to overrun the US Capitol.
I’m asking people to come to Washington DC by the carload, and next Thursday at noon I’ll be at a press conference on the steps of the Capitol .I’d love to have everyone of your viewers join me so that we can go up and down through the halls, find members of Congress, look at the whites of their eyes, and say don’t take away my health care!
And, look who was enabling her – the Mannity! So, is he just not into Grandma ExGov TurkeyLover anymore? Small Price to Pay Boehner likes the tea party mob mentality, too! Rep. Joe "You Lie!" Wilson introduced an amendment forcing members of Congress to be a part of a public option. What a dumb $hit; members of Congress already have a public option, you boil on the butt of humanity! Here goes Lawrence, again! ;D Here’s Rep. Anthony Weiner! Senator Reid doesn’t think health care reform in the Senate can get done this year. Well, of course he thinks that! This is the same guy who’s got Joementum under control, too. Rep. Weiner thinks voting in the House will be ready to go by this weekend – damn! Rep. Wilson’s
...one taco shy of a combo himself...
according to Rep. Weiner – HA! Excuse me, I think we have our food theme for tonight! ;D And, Rep. Weiner told Bat$hit’s people to
...bring it on!
Damn, he’s good.
#1 "Fancy Pageant Talkin’" - My snark detection meter’s going off. ;D Hey! How did Countdown peeps get a peek into my diary draft?! THIEVES! St. Sarah went back on stage after Senator McCentury’s very gracious concession speech
...to take pictures with her family...,
and McCentury staff turned the lights out on her – literally. HA! Hey! St. Sarah looks like that Liz chick that was having a cow in the emails about her name! Who would’ve thunk it? Yea! Michael Musto! I hope he talks about Miss Opposite Marriage’s little...um...well...gee...movie – yea, movie. AUGH!! Look what they made poor Michael Musto do! OK, no one disses Michael Musto again in my presence! Anyone who’s willing to do this gets a pass for life! O...M...G... I really needed this laugh today. Sort of but not entirely off – topic, some details of St. Sarah from Wasilla’s book tour were released today; read this information carefully & note the inclusion of a town named Noblesville, IN. Noblesville, IN isn’t quite spitting distance from my humble abode, but it’s damn close! I sure as $hit can see Noblesville from my house a hell of a lot better than "that woman" could see Russia from her house. And, she’s coming there. AAAAaaaaaaUUUUUUuuuuuuGGGGGGggggggHHHHHHHhhhhh! I gotta get Richard Wolffe to do a signing event here just to balance out the karma.
