So here it is, another Saturday night. I spent part of the day raking up all the beautiful fallen leaves and tossing them onto my faded and dying flower beds. The rest I will mow up with my vacuum mower and add to my mulch pile.
My husband spent part of his day cleaning out the garage- his world- I know nothing about.
The rest of the day was spent running errands and house cleaning.
And now it's Saturday night.
If you are reading this diary, you are home on this Saturday night, reading blogs, trying to stay up to the minute on what's happening right now. All the power to you. I am there. I am with you.
My husband, on the other hand, is channel surfing- looking for something to fall asleep by- anything to relax his body and ease his mind after his long day off of 'hard work'. He doesn't share my enthusiasm for what is happening right now in Washington DC. He is just like the ultra majority of his fellow citizens- going about what they do on this Saturday night- oblivious to the historic vote that is about to take place.
It's not that he doesn't care. My husband is all for health care reform. He doesn't like the idea that insurance companies get rich by refusing services. "That's just not right." is his opinion. But he doesn't want to devote his evening to watching Congress debate this issue.
And his attitude is shared by millions and millions of Americans.
I cannot contain myself. I have never felt more a part of history as I do at this moment. More than when I watched Barack Obama become the president of the United States of America. Because for the first time in almost eight years, Congress is actually doing something. The Republicans can't believe it. They actually have to work for a living. The Democrats can't believe it. They actually have the majority and can get things done.
And now that cultural shock is wavering- the vote is going to happen.
And I am so excited- I told my husband that if he stops being such a die hard- he could get lucky tonight.
And this Saturday night could turn into a party night after all.
Update: Vote passes!!!!!!! Party on!!!!!
