As a fan, I suffered today through another miserable Chicago Bears performance. Just as I was about to turn the television off in disgust I heard, or thought I heard, someone on TV say 'There is no God'. For a minute I thought I imagined it or that my current H1N1 infection was getting worse.
I wasn't watching the screen when I heard the utterance, but when I looked up I saw Cardinal's Quarterback Kurt Warner walking away from Bear's Quarterback Jay Cutler, apparently after doing the "shake the loser's hands" routine at midfield.
I wondered to myself, 'Did Jay Cutler just stick it to Uber-Christian Kurt Warner?'. Kurt Warner is pretty famous for Christian activism and helped support a high profile advertising campaign against Stem Cell Research a few years back, as well as endorsing GWB. There are also a handful of, umm, interesting youtube clips where Kurt talks about his faith. Here is an example where Kurt draws what God looks like:
Here's another good clip of Kurt talking about Jesus and the Superbowl:
So I thought at first that maybe Cutler was just being a prick and pissing in Kurt's Cheerio's after an embarrassing loss.
However, going over the segment several times, it was clear that the phrase was not spoken by Cutler. In fact, it appeared, to me, that Warner is the one who says "There is no God", but please, be your own judge:
I think there are a few options:
- I'm totally hearing things
- Kurt is a hypocrite who doesn't believe in God
- Kurt is being a sarcastic prick and poking fun at Cutler (Warner = religious douchebag)
- We missed the the first part of the exchange where Kurt says "see what happens when you think...there is no God" ( Warner = religious douchebag)
- The audio is from some unrelated person in the scene.
What do y'all think?
