I'm seeing some light on the horizon after reports that Sarah Palin's new book is essentially a rewriting of the tired old re-re-hashing of Bushano... I mean Reaganomics. Same difference after all.
As a political manifesto, it mainly offers bromides tested by Republicans past, especially Ronald Reagan, rather than any solutions to 10.2 percent unemployment, deficits as far as the eye can see, or Afghanistan.
I think we all know what the 2012 GOP primary is going to look like if Sarah Palin runs. The field is so weak that she's actually the candidate to beat, as insane as that sounds. That's what a real populist base means, even if they are split evenly between abortion clinic protesters and white supremacists.
But my fear had always been that she would somehow manage to lose the primary by deviating from time tested (and now totally proven for disastrous) GOP economic talking points (Reaganomics rehash). It looks like she's caught on to where Romney is going though, he of course being the other candidate to beat.
The 2012 primary is going to be a cross between a KKK rally and a Ronald Reagan memorial service, as twisted and horrible as that sounds. That's what it's going to be.
But with Palin snatching Reagan's mantle, and quite cleverly preempting Romney's inevitable pander (he doesn't have the guts (stupidity?) to be consistently outspoken right now)... I think the Reagan zombie grave defilement will actually be far less effective than it might have been, and will likely even backfire.
Whatever Palin touches turns to garbage, she's got the inverse Midas touch.
And let's not forget how Palin dissed the Simi Valley Republican Ladies Group Fund-raiser for Republicans at the Ronald Reagan Library. How effectively she'll be able to cling to zombie Reagan with her history is going to be a big question. But with Palin, Huckabee, and of course Romney all grasping at Reagan's decomposing corpse, there's not going to be much of any substance left in their hands when they're done.
And here's a recent posting on her Facebook page (sorry, I was laughing there for a minute... from Governor to Facebook... chuckle):
"To the tireless grassroots patriots who worked so hard in that race and to future citizen-candidates... please remember Reagan's words of encouragement after his defeat in 1976,'' Palin writes today: "The cause goes on.
With zombie Reagan now squarely corralled in Palin's corner, Romney has to join him there in the taint. As we had hoped, we can rely on Sarah Palin to be smart enough to know how to play some of these things, but dumb enough to most certainly screw them up for her party.
