At a rally, the self-styled messiah Glenn Beck told his followers "We need to think like China," and announced that he was developing a "100-year-plan" for America. As blogger Peter Schorsch reported from Beck's rally, he is "essentially calling for an end to the two-party system."
Yes, that does sound a little like China. Wasn't it Beck who just, a few short weeks ago, assailed Anita Dunn for referencing Mao Tse-Tung in a commencement address?
Yet, here he is referencing a 2007 speech written by Wen Jiabao, leader of China's Communist Party, as a path Americans should follow into the future.
The speech is called, "Our Historical Tasks at the Primary Stage of Socialism and Several Issues Concerning China's Foreign Policy." It outlines a course for China economically and internationally that will help China realize true socialism.
Taking things a bit out of order, here is the primary thesis of the speech that also correlates with Beck's "plan":
It will take a considerably long historical process for socialism to gain maturity in terms of both theory and practice. Therefore, we must unswervingly adhere to the basic lines of the Party for the primary stage of socialism for the next 100 years and persist in carrying out reform and innovation to ensure enduring vigor and vitality for socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Going back to the beginning of the speech, Jiabao says
China is at the primary stage of socialism, and will remain so for a long time to come...We should also recognize that the socialist system still has room for improvement and that it is not yet a mature one. Comrade Deng Xiaoping pointed out that in essence, socialism is about liberating and developing the productive forces, eliminating exploitation and polarization, and ultimately, it is about achieving prosperity for all. This means that in consolidating and developing socialism, we must be clear about and focus on two major tasks: one is to liberate and develop the productive forces to vastly increase the material wealth of the whole society, and the other is to achieve social fairness and justice, fire the creativity of the whole nation and promote social harmony...they should be pursued throughout the historical course of all the development stages of socialism. Without the sustained and full development of productive forces, it will be impossible to achieve social fairness and justice, an essential requirement of socialism.
Regarding the overall long-term development of socialism, Comrade Deng Xiaoping made a keen observation in 1992 in his remarks during his inspection tour to south China: It will take a very long historical period to consolidate and develop the socialist system, and it will require persistent struggle by many generations, a dozen or even several dozens.
I find it strange that someone who rails against communism and socialism as much as Glenn Beck does would suggest to his followers that the Chinese have the answers to changing this country.
If there were another Glenn Beck, he would take apart this Glenn Beck on air, skewering him for saying he was going to create a 100-year-plan like Wen Jiabao's:
Is this man a COMMUNIST?
B - Beijing plan
E - Eradicating two-party system
C - Chinese-style government
K - KGB!
Only a communist would avdocate a system of Chinese-style socialism. Only a communist would say we should reform our government according to a Chinese model. Folks, this plan was written by Wen Jiaobao, the LEADER of the Chinese COMMUNIST Party. The party that still idolizes the likes of Mao Tse Tung?
Wake up America! Why is the evil Glenn Beck lauding the leader of China's Communist Party as his model for a 100-year plan? This plan is a guide to achieving socialism! Ergo, Beck is a socialist.
If we follow this plan, folks, it will be a dark day for America. It will be the end of our country as we know it. We are talking about 100 years of darkness. Our founding fathers would roll over in their graves--Jefferson would weep--if he knew he were being mentioned in the same speech as the head of China's communist party.
First, the solipsistic Beck bastardizes the Gift of the Magi for a lame knockoff called The Christmas Sweater. Now, he steals from the Chinese Prime Minister to create a 100-year-plan to turn America into a one-party Communist dictatorship.
All the while, convincing his mentally and educationally challenged followers that the other side are the Communists.
In his recent rally, Beck said he had started reading more on history over the past few years. The problem is that Beck lacks the intellectual chops to understand what he is reading. It would be better if he were actually learning about history from someone who has studied it and understands it enough to know that the Nazis were not socialists.
Beck's understanding of history is so elementary, it makes Dick and Jane blush.
Nevertheless, do not make the mistake of thinking this megalomaniac is harmless. He also announced a "plan" to divide the country into 7 regions and hold "classes" teaching people his perspective on politics, the economy, healthcare, and foreign policy.
He claims to have established a "team" of advisors--a "shadow cabinet," as Media Matters calls it. What news personality--what "rodeo clown"--hires a team of advisors? As one Kos poster said yesterday, it sounds more like he is creating a "cult."
Beck as a media personality is a little scary. He spews vitriol that appeals to the lowest common denominator of haters in this country and risks inciting violence. But this was only the foundation. Now he is setting up the framework.
By establishing these reeducation centers and compiling lists of people in different regions, he is building cells. He is connecting groups of people united in their hatred of this administration and, yes, our system of government. These are people who, like Beck, want a one-party system based on fundamentalist religious values.
Beck sees himself as the leader of this movement. He hopes that by luring masses to Washington repeatedly--masses that continue to get bigger--eventually it will turn into something beyond an ugly protest by racist bigots.
He doesn't care that he has no chance of staging a successful revolution. He just wants to go down in history (in his mind) as a Patrick Henry-esque type figure, fighting for Liberty.
Ironically, the very policies Beck is now starting to put into place--a conservative Acorn-type organization (after dismantling the liberal version) and reeducation camps are the very things he has alleged the Obama administration is secretly planning.
If you want to know what Beck's 100-year-plan looks like, all you have to do is review his shows for the past year and realize that everything he has accused the Obama administration of doing is actually a component of his own 100-year-plan.
