While it’s hard to know specific details about the bizarre Tiger Woods accident three days ago – with Woods apparently getting public relations advice from the Chinese, cancelling meetings with police and stonewalling – it’s looking reasonably possible that Tiger Woods was attacked by his wife, Elin, with her hands and also with the deadly weapon of a golf club.
Men who are the victims of domestic violence are often much more reluctant to report the abuse than women, who have social acceptance and a vast network of support resources to aid them if they are assaulted by their husbands. Already, I’ve personally heard several grinning comments that Woods let his wife chase him out of the house and give him a smackdown – all with the obligatory chuckle and grin.
If we need any more evidence of how serious domestic abuse against men is, we need look no further that the case of comedian Phil Hartman, who was shot and killed as he slept by his wife Brynn in 1998.
Today it could be a golf club Elin Woods used against her husband (which in itself is deadly – perhaps the reason Woods was "slipping in and out of consciousnesses" when taken to the hospital, according to some reports); tomorrow it can just as easily be death by a golf club – or a gun.
The bizarre delay in Woods – a public figure if ever there was one – coming forward only lends credence to the likelihood that he is severely battered and that his wife assaulted him with a deadly weapon.
Tiger Woods: don’t try to "act the man" and brush this assault off. Please don’t become another Phil Hartman. If your wife assaulted you with a deadly weapon, she must be charged now and removed where she can not do you greater harm.
