Tom Suozzi conceded defeat in his race to be reelected Nassau County Executive. Right outside of New York City it is a very vote rich area of Long Island that moved sharply to the Democrats in the late 90's and early 2000's. This is a major and very surprsing defeat for the Democratic party in New York. Suozzi was a rising star. He ran against Spitzer for the Democratic nomintion for Governor in 2006. He was considered absolutely safe. This could be bad news across the board for Democrats in New York in 2010.

Republican rule in Nassau County was awful. They nearly drove it to complete bankruptcy and only governed for their machine which produced people like former Senator Al D'Amato.
Suozzi had tremendous accomplishments. He did a lot to turn the county around after the disastrous rule of the Republicans ending with Tom Gulotta.
Democrats also lost the county legistlaure and it looks like the Democratic county comptroller lost as well. The Republicans are just going to cut taxes without cutting spending and just wreck the finances again! That is what caused all the problems that made Suozzi County Executive in the first place.
