This is not my doings but I'm happy to promote it. A draft page has been launched on Facebook encouraging Bill Halter to challenge Blanche Lincoln in the primary. In the course of about six hours, from the time I joined to the time of posting this, the page has already doubled in membership. I don't know the guy who came up with this, but I'm working to get an interview for my blog.
The buzz around Halter is getting pretty intense. Not only is he the focus of the netroots and national progressives but there's a lot of hope here in Arkansas that he will get in. If he goes for it, he'll have plenty of support here on the ground and a lot of potential to expand upon that base. At this point, the drum beat is so loud that if he doesn't get in he'll be dissapoiting folks in a big way-like Ron Sparks did in Alabama back in '08.
I really hope Dailykos polls the primary soon. I'd love to see what the numbers look like. Halter is the most progressive major politician in the state and he puts a good Arkansas spin on it that makes him plenty electable. He's a great fundraiser as well and with all the interest in this money won't be an issue. Primaries have succeeded in Arkansas in the past...Senator Fullbright beat Senator Hattie Caraway...Dale Bumpers beat Fullbright...Blanche Lincoln beat Bill Alexander to win her old House seat, etc....so this isn't outside th realm of possibility. And if Halter goes for it and wins, he kills the meme that says you have to run right to run in the South and opens the door for us to do some really big stuff here in Arkansas and beyond.
So join the group and let's get this ball rolling.
