It's good news time! This week four of our own announced that their company Progressive PST (PPST) is open for business. Spedwybabs, Stranded Wind, Andsarahtoo and Redstatesblueworld developed the concept for their social media consulting firm at this year's Netroots Nation. Bill in Portland Maine witnessed the effects that Progressive PST could have on a race during the recent No on 1 campaign. Bill's post on Tuesday gave a synopsis of what PPST does.
During the campaign to uphold Maine's same-sex marriage law, Kossacks Spedwybabs and Stranded Wind made creative use of Twitter to round up volunteers for both in-state canvassing and out-of-state phonebanking. It worked really well. I kept getting update emails from 'em saying, "500 hits to the 'No on 1' web site!" Then a thousand. Then two thousand. Then three. These little tweets generated surprisingly robust traffic. (The vote ultimately didn’t go the way we wanted, but 47 percent approval for gay marriage on the first try is pretty impressive considering we're still, historically speaking, living in primitive times.)
I've been talking to Spedwybabs and Stranded Wind about their company and I think it's a phenomenal idea. It's beyond obvious that most candidates could use a service that helps them reach out to their constituents and supporters online. There are a few Congressmen that can raise whatever they need, but most come to daily Kos and the netroots hat in hand and leave with little. Many don't know know how to get started or figure that they can just drop a press release off with an ActBlue link. The fundraising is an obvious benefit but there are many more subtle services that candidates and causes can hire PPST for. They can help their clients network recruiting both ideas and volunteers from the netroots. PPST also could help put out press and garner national attention. My own Congresswoman Anna Eshoo could use that function. I called her office and asked her to get out there and stand up for causes we believe in. Her staff says that they can't control what the media covers and what it doesn't. She couldn't be more wrong. A simple blog post done correctly can make it's way onto national TV.
What can you do?
1. Spread the word.
a. Contact Congressman or candidates, causes/iniatives that may need these services and let them know that PPST is open for business
b. Put PPST on your blogroll, put a link on your facebook, twitter, webpage or write your own post about it here and elsewhere.
c. Got an idea for other services PPST can provide?
This is just great! Congratulations to these four Kossacks and their venture! Please use this comment section to discuss the above great news and to share good news of your own.
