Some absolutist idealists call for boycott of elections, or voting for guaranteed loser "alternative" parties and candidates "on principle", usually putting forth the "analysis" that even the most progressive bourgeois liberal Democrats are "nothing" but capitalist shills, who "only" represent the interests of their own class, and thus serve "only" the dominant paradigm of monopoly corporate fascism.

Photobucket

While that analysis may not be absolutely, technically speaking, "wrong", in every respect, per se, the implications of the line are profound, in terms of the material effect on millions of people in this country and all over the world, among whom low income people and people of color will be grossly, disproportionately effected, suffer horribly, and die, if a right wing reactionary conservative fundamentalist fascist regime seizes the power in Congress.

Photobucket

Right now, the balance of power in Congress is hanging by a thread, despite a Progressive Caucus majority within the Democratic Majority.  Traitorous anti-democratic corporate Blue Dogs, in alliance with Republicans, still retain, just barely, by a thread, sufficient plurality to effectively block, delay and sabotage motion.

Just a few more Progressive Caucus Democrats, and a few less Blue Dogs and Republicans, would make a world of difference on any given issue, in real, material, literal terms of life and death, for millions of people, and the whole planet, in the face of a wide range of crisis, not the least of which may prove to be climate change, and the end of all life on earth, but also extending to any of the many other more mundane, but nevertheless critically urgent issues of war, the economy, or health care.

transfusion

You can rant and rave about how "teh Dems" have proven far from ideal, and even counterproductive, in terms of being anywhere near willing or able to adequately address any of these issues, and, again, you won't necessarily be "wrong", per se, technically speaking, in the most absolutist, idealist sense.

But yet and still, there remains a material, substantial, significant difference between the Progressive Caucus and the Blue Dog traitors, and especially between the Progressives and the Republicans.

Photobucket

The fact is, the Progressive Caucus is the majority now, within the Democratic Majority in Congress, and thus the Progressive Caucus now ultimately defines  what the Democratic Party is, anymore, NOT the Blue Dogs, who are NOT "teh Dems", but a traitorous minority rump faction within the party.

Those who would conflate the Blue Dogs as being "teh Dems", in a duplicious ploy to insinuate that there's "no difference" between the Democrats and Republicans, as "justification" for boycotting or splitting the vote, are opportunist, unprincipled, weaseling liars, deliberately trying to demoralize the electorate with cynical defeatism, to suppress likely Democratic voter turnout for 2010 and 2012.

Photobucket

Whether they like it, realize it, or believe it or not, they are directly supporting fascism in the US, and should thus be resolutely kicked to the curb, as traitors to everything the people of this (potentially) great nation stand for and aspire to.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

That's what I think, when dogmatic, doctrinaire, rhetorical jerkoff ultra-"leftists" spew their "revolutionary" lines, calling for boycott and splitting...

As if it would be "better" to have full-blown fascism, than even the most inadequate, but life-saving reforms, while we continue the struggle to overthrow capitalism as we now know it....

Either way, the struggle will continue.

But on what terms, and what footing, and with what material results, in the meanwhile?

when you go around calling people 'jerkoffs' who 'spew'.

That's a pretty good indicator that you've already gotten away from any sort of useful prose, and are merely ranting on a streetcorner.

the spewing jerkoffs might take offense, lol.

But most of them tend to be beyond reason, so fuck 'em.  They're just here to troll and attack "teh liberals" anyway.

I'm seeking mainly to appeal to those who haven't yet gone off the deep end with that particular brand of koolaid.  Sometimes "tough love" is appropriate.

I give them more credit than most here at dkos do, though, heh, in acknowledging that at least some aspects of their analysis may be, technically speaking, more or less correct...

I'm no right wing reactionary left-basher.  But, neither am I some kind of Stalinist bot.

I just want to point out that material results are what ultimately matters, and what history will judge us on.

    •  Care to define "fail"? (0+ / 0-)

Would that be enabling overt full-blown fascism, or your own personal subjective self-gratification, in "thinking" that you "did the right thing" with the futile symbolic gesture of voting for some guaranteed loser "alternative", or not voting at all for a "lesser evil"?

Would you prefer the "greater evil"?

I'm not talking here about what you "want" or how you "feel", but what will actually happen, in reality, to millions of people...

And how has that been working out for you, or more relevantly, for those of us who so desperately need to see some real hope, for a change?

BTW, care to expand on the bible citation in your "name"?

In slightly longer form, based on the setup we've got now, third parties aren't likely to win major elections.  Therefore, if you want some real hope and change, you still have to work within the parties we've already got that do win elections.  So work to primary blue dogs with real progressives, but you're wasting your time and effort trying to run third party candidates against other dems, unless you've got some really well liked celebrity type who would rather run as a third party rather than a dem.

The Bible citation I use for my handle is an example of why minors shouldn't be exposed to the Bible.  It should be limited only to legal adults...

        •  kk...thx for clarification...agreed, more or less (0+ / 0-)

          re: 3rd parties.

I have, occasionally, voted for such candidates, but only when I knew that the most progressive available Democrat had a firm lock on the overall vote, such that a "protest" vote would in no way be in danger of helping to swing the outcome to a Republican.

In general, though, even a dog is better than a freakin' pig, when it comes down to a close call, as far as I'm concerned.

I googled the bible citation, glancing at key words that appeared, and I think that's kinda disgusting...more of an example why even adults with a brain would want to just avoid the bible altogether...but then I guess that's a matter of taste.

The only bibles I like are the ones where the words and teachings attributed to Jesus are printed in red ink, which I have no big problems with.

The rest seems mostly a lot of whack jive, of only very limited, vaguely, minimally interesting, cultural anthropology.

and the thing is, the trolls just love to stir up the anti Dem notions by pushing that button that so many respond to. You just disabled that button, so the button lovers just hate your diary. If someone said what you said more gently and diplomatically and had a prominent kossian name, this would be on the rec list. The biting humor you used was quite good, but it falls flat with the whiners who need to hear it I guess.

to phrase it more effectively...Anybody who recognizes that this subject does need to be addressed, should speak to it!

I have to acknowledge that my harsh rhetorical style is...unappealing...to many.

Oh well.  My approach is intended as interior agitprop, not necessarily for general mass consumption, heh.

Some 100 million eligibles refused to vote, even for Obama, primarily out of disgust with the Blue Dogs, and perception of "no difference" between Democrats and Republicans.

That is a huge latent, mostly progressive-leaning electoral pool, which, if mobilized for an unprecedented, historic interim election turnout in 2010, explicitly for the purpose of stepping up to seize the power, to purge the Blue Dogs and Republicans to the greatest extent possible, could change the world.

All we need is for more bold progressives come forward and run, and for Obama to put out the call to everyone who voted for him, to vote for them, to give him the backup he needs to suppress the anti-democratic opposition to his programs...

The right has prevailed over these many years by turning out virtually their entire wing-nut constituency,  and suppressing likely Democratic voter turnout by hook and by crook.  The right has no electoral reserves to call up.  They are all in.

Public opinion has reached a critical mass...the right is no longer politically correct in this country.  We are at a tipping point.
