I hear that our former mayor is cringing at the thought of trying the 9-11 suspects in New York. It might be unsafe. They'll turn this into a circus. They'll have access to lawyers. They'll be able to testify and give their story. All those things that were set up in that quaint pre-911 document, The Constitution of the United States.
This is, of course, absolute nonsense. These are people who, apparently conspired to commit a mass murder in the state of New York. This was not a military operation - it was an act of hatred carried out by religious extremists. The rules are pretty clear - they will have their day in court. Remarkably, even though New Yorkers are supposed to be huddling in their apartments and praying that nothing else bad happens, most New Yorkers (including me) would be happy to sit on that jury. I sat on a federal jury several years ago. This isn't Judge Judy. If somebody tried to turn that into a circus, they'd be out in handcuffs in less than a minute. Before he thanked God that Bush was president, Giuliani was prosecuting Mafia cases. He should try re-growing a backbone.
